As you know I have the VFR at the moment, really enjoying it to, it’s fast, reliable, sounds gorgeous and personally it has always been one of my favourite looking bikes ever made. It is going to be sad to see it go when I want to upgrade, I have had my eye on a few bikes around the 1000cc mark.
After much debating I think Jap is the only way to go really as my budget isn’t too great, the RSV Mille idea is out the window and a Ducatti. Lol
Honda seems to be treating me well so the only bike that catches my eye is below, the SP2.
So, to anyone one with one or knowledge of one, will it treat me as well as my VFR and is there anything really wrong about it?
I have learned so much about the 2 strokes now, 4 strokes are new to me but I am picking it up quickly, I know there is a sp1 and 2, so what’s the difference. Will the insurance be severe even after a year of riding (touch wood) no claims.

Oh, looking at your pic I'm sure the SP2 had different headlight which make it look fuggin ugly from the front IMO !

The SP1 and SP2 are very track focused and required a lot of mods and setting up to get the best out of them. However when you do get them up to speed they are awesome bikes.

Something like a blade, R1, GSXR 1k etc will be faster out of the crate and more comfortable for the longer trips.

I know what you mean about the SP1/2 - I'd love one. The sound of a V-Twin with race cans mmmmmmmmm Thumbs Up

It is one of the loudest bikes I have heard going through town. Walked out of work the other day and SP2 was trundling through town at 30 and I thought there was a thundestorm nearby, I was like "crikey"! They look gorgoeus though! Very Happy

I like the GSX/R and the TL1000 but I have heard that Suzuki in terms of build quality are quite poor hence the small’ish price tags.

You say the VTR would need mod’s etc, but I would have thought it is bloody fast anyway, no?

It will be quick but it all depends on what your using it for. I imagine the SP1/2 rider won't be losing his mates on blasts across the countryside but it's probably down a bit on power compared to an Inline-4 1000.

And quite peaky for a V-Twin is it not?

The SPs are fecking beautiful. There is one in a dealership near me for just over 5K. It is the insurance that will cripple you, group 17. I see you are thinking of the twins then. Good call - its just hard finding one that is both big, pretty and not too pricey.

Peaky. For a V-Twin it makes its power higher up than other V-Twins. The TL is also a V-Twin. Your looking at about 120-125 BHP for a litre Twin compared to 140-155 etc bhp for the Inline-4's. Just rough figures.

All depends on your riding style. If you want to scream it's head off then it's got to be an Inline-4. Twins make there power and torque further down the rev range for easier, more relaxed riding.

Personally I prefer Inline-4's. And like Gracie says, the insurance will be a killa ( Laughing

) .

TL1000R's, very nice bikes but I can't say I'd get another one. The gearboxes have room for improvement, the first thing I can think of would be for them not to be made out of chocolate. Brilliant bike to ride which was why I bothered getting the gearbox replaced but I wouldn't want to buy another as the chances are the gearbox would die on that and I'd then be left with another big bill.

The TL1000R cost me £50 extra for insurance to change from being insured on a ZX6R, and the ZX6R insurance cost £800 at 18 with 1yrs NCB.

If you want to get one, go and have a test ride and I'd almost put money on it resulting in you deciding that you want one.

There is also the TL1000S but those are dodgier than the tiller, still has the same gearbox woes and they also have an "interesting" reputation for tank slappers & dodgy handling, make sure you get one where the original frame has bene replaced which it should have been as the original ones are prone to cracks.

Sp1's are pretty meaty. My best mate's uncle used to have an SP1 in castrol colours and that was lovely. Really loud as well, you know when hes nearby. Lovely bikes but I don't know if I'm a fan of V twins.

Anyway, still nice bikes but personally I would much rather have a CBR thou Very Happy

Interesting stuff Ste, sounds like a waste of petrol to me.
All show and no go, like I said above I’m not in a position to get a gear box change or anything like that.
Honda’s seem a good bet.
I think I prefer loud and torque(y) to fast and nimble.

Admittedly I've not ridden one, but I'd have thought an SP1 would be capable of keeping up with anything on the road. I can't imagine many places (not including the M1 at 2am Wink

) you can use 130+bhp for any amount of time.

Early RSV Milles can be had for close to 3k now, quite a lot of bike for the money.

Won't the SV1000 have the same gearbox as the TL's? Or have they sorted it since?

My friend was riding a TLR1000 for quite a long time and although he loved it it did spend a lot of weekends in local garages having something done to it.

I guess trying to wrench the thing up from the power in 2nd never helped.

Sounded gorgeous though with his yoshi cans on it and he could get it to through-fire makes them pedestrians look out :o

He complained it was pretty heavy to turn about though and has since went to the gixxer thou side of things.

The Mille does really interest me, I just really would like a reliable bike, I have no idea if it is.
Mind you my experience of Aprilia comes from the 2 strokes.

They seem to be getting better. Dunno about the older Mille's but they are cheap now.

Can't go wrong with most Jap bikes for reliability. Keep hearing that Suzuki ain't up to much but the only thing I hear over and over is that the sticker kits seem to peel off on most bikes easily.

If you want a torquey, powerful and reliable bike, that has sports styling (kind of) then a Suzuki SV1000 might be worth considering. Surely somebody could back me up here?

Yeah Josh I see what you mean but it also a matter of looks. The SV isn’t my sort of bike for that.
I think I might have a look over the bike pic web site fr some more model ideas.
