Rang round insurance companies today for my Bandit. Remember that I will only be 17, with 1 years No Claims in a good area. I got quotes of well over a thousand pounds and thought I was onto a goodun with Carole Nash at £610...

Then I rang up my current insurers, Motorcycle Direct and they got me a quote on a 600 Bandit for...

£260.47 TPFT!!! + £400 excess.

That's only £100 more than I paid for my Scooter TPO. Dance!

Wonder how cheap it will be in a couple of years time. Thinking

I dunno if they just want to keep my custom because I am already with them, but my god I was speechless I had to keep checking with the woman if she was telling the truth!

We reap the benefits of not having a stereotypical fast bike.

Although I'm still annoyed, I'm 18 with 0NCB and I pay about £600 TPFT on my XJ600.

I did ask her why it was so low and she said it was a combination of having a top of the range alarm, having it alphadotted, not including commuting and keeping it garaged overnight. She also said I live in an extremely low crime area. Thumbs Up

Are you having us on mate? If you aren't thats a bloody good deal. Thats what I pay for my 50 at the moment, and thats with Bennetts. Maybe I should get on ebay and buy a VFR now Laughing

I might try them with the RD, I might get a quote of £100! Very Happy

Nice going though. I thought £600 was a good price, but what you got there is absolutely great. Thumbs Up

Mark, you ride a ZX6R though, my isn't a sports bike. Yet it's still powerful enough and a fair few insurance groups down. I carried on ringing around and everyone was shocked when I said my lowest quote was £260.

For the record I spent 4 hours on the phone to various companies. Smile

Bandits are pretty cheap to insure by the looks of things. My mate had a B12 for a little while and only paid £106 TPTF. He is 24 and it was garaged.

No commuting can cut a quote in half sometimes!

No pillions can also take a decent chunk out of it as well.

OT: My questions whilst we're all here:

If you crash whilst commuting, and you aren't covered for it, how can they possibly question it? Surely you can just say you were off out to the shops...?

That's insanely mentally cheap. If only my next bike will be that cheap to insure...

Ooh and Jon, how many kms/miles did you say you would be doing a year?

4000 miles, even though it is primary form of transport, my college is within walking distance of me and therefore will only be riding it when I need too. Bit pointless starting it up and by the time it has warmed up I could have been there. Smile
