They say the only stupid question is a question left not asked, which is a sentiment I whole heartedly agree with.

Reading through some of the workshop posts alone it suddenly struck me how many people would have carried out dodgy or dangerous maintenance on their bikes if it was not for the advice given on this forum.

You have to wonder how many accidents have been avoided due to advice given here.

still trying to work out the point to this post, but if there is one perhaps it is that the less experienced people here should never be afraid to ask what may at first appear to be a stupid question and those more experienced among us should frequent the workshop area more often.

An example if one is needed is that of a member who shall remain un-named asking me in msn if he should bleed his brakes using water instead of brake fluid because he could not afford proper fluid Rolling Eyes

I think that you maybe right, maybe not greatly dramatic as saving lives but i am sure it does a lot for safety! i feel a lot better about working on my bike, and if i am unsure about anything i will post about it and i WILL get good advise!

For me, it's been less mechanical advice as generally I wait untill something explodes before taking the fairing off.

But in terms of technique and awareness on the road, this forum has really helped me become a safer and more alert rider, definately. Thumbs Up

that's decreased my chances of getting knocked off, squashed etc at least.

Speaking as one of the older gits on the forum, I would rather people asked the question than guess the answer.

I remember feeling proud when I first learnt to check my oil level.

The first strip-down of my first bikes engine was done with the help of mates.

My first chop was built with the help of mates.

Forums are a 'point of contact'. Ask a question and you'll either get an answer or an argument, both of which can be informative.
