What is the point of the renewal?.

To me it seems like a bald faced money grab without merit.

When I took my CBT 2 years ago I had never ridden a motorbike before in my life.
After 5 hours I was deemed fit for the road.

Now 2 years later with 100s of hours under my belt and a far more experienced rider the government forces me to pay 90 odd pounds to prove im fit for the road?.

The contradiction is extreme.

Even if I had not ridden once since the CBT I would still have as much experience and demonstrated skill that proved me fit for the road originally.

Yeh im annoyed about having to fork out for it :/. I am happy with my 125.
I dont need, want and cannot afford a larger bike right now or the licence cost.
125 fans should be given a 3rd choice maybe?.

Or you could have just passed your tests within the 2 years, 100s of hours under your belt should be more than enough. Rolling Eyes

It comes up on the first page of google.

The main bike test is almost entirely to assess you on larger bikes?. If I can go up to 60 on A roads and 70 on DC, and drive all over country minus motorways on my CBT then I am by their own judgement fit to ride pretty much anywhere.

So why should I have to pay 700 odd pounds for a bike test for larger bikes when ill be sticking with the 125?.

Hi

Before CBT came in you had 2 years to get your test done and if you didn't you couldn't renew your provisional licence to ride a bike again for a year. At least CBT means you can do keep on riding.

But CBT is just a very basic bit of training. Pretty much equivalent to a first driving lesson. Idea is that the rider is not quite as lethal while they learn and pass their test.

All the best

Keith

£700 Laughing

Costs like £121.50 for all 3 parts of the test.

Eh im confused, admittedly its been nearly 2 years since I looked into it but I was under the impression the only choice was a Direct Access full bike licence.

Why do you need to do DAS, probably left it too late now but you can do your test on a 125 and go on to a bigger bike.

It is what I did in 2007 Laughing

Hmmm clearly I am not properly informed of all the levels and types of tests.

Ill look into it now and see if cannot find some better option for myself.

Nope. And if you had done your test already you could have done it in a 125 which would have covered you fine. And after 2 years it would have changed to a full licence for any capacity. But you have left it too late for now as the rules are just about to change.

All the best

yeah but didn't she pass her car test before like 1998 or something then you don't even need your cbt only L plates and a 125 i think

Wrong! The rules changed totally from January 1997. Everyone who wishes to ride has to do a CBT regardless of when they passed their car test.

I think you have just answered your own question.

YOU ought to redo CBT becouse you obviously didn't learn much on your first one..... like WHY we have CBT and WHY you have to renew it every two years and FACT it most absolutely fucking does NOT deem you a competant rider to ride anywhere and anywhere you like, and that the test is only to let you ride 'BIG' bikes!

CBT is Compulsary BASIC Training..... clue really is in the title......

Means you have half a clue and aren't completely clueless... or shouldn't be... comments you have made do give me doubt....

TESTS are there to assess your competance; and for ANY bike. You can ride a little one on a full licence just as easily as a big one.

And as pointed out, incentive is to get you to prove your competance and earn your road-room like every other road-user has to BEFORE they are let loose on thier own, and spend your £90- on the tests, rather than 'waste' it learning the stuff YOU obviousely didn't on another CBT.

And by the way, you DONT have to pay the government a penny to re-do CBT you pay a riding school.

You also dont have to pay them £700 to do the 'big-bike tests'....

DSA test fees are the same irrespective of whether you test on a 125, a 500 or a full fat 600+...... you just have to provide the bike..... again, often by paying a school for a course.
