Finally decided on a nitron shock for the vfr but now can't decide between r1 and r2. £700 is the absolute max (there goes my bonus) so no ohlins etc

Will the extra adjustability be worth jt? I want rid of the bouncing out the saddle experience on the oem shock.

I just want as smooth as possible

I had the R1 on my VFR800, and it was great. The balance between rebound and compression was better than on most dual adjustable shocks. Once I got the damping dialled in, it just worked and made the bike feel epic.

For the road it's not worth the extra unless you want to spend money on bling. Nitron REALLY know what they are doing, and even in their most basic shock it shows.

Either the Nitron....or the YSS shock, which I have read are good value for money. This and a pair of K-Tech fork springs for £85 would give a good balance

The YSS and the Nitron don't deserve to be in the same sentence. YSS is an OEM replacement, Nitron is on another level.

How was it in places such as overtaking on hashed lines etc? Finding that awful at the moment with the stock one. Fairly compliant?

Better, yes, but the old one literally had no damping left. You're right though, overtaking on bumps and ripples in the road was AWFUL until the new shock made it buttery smooth.

I did not say they were on a par...only that the YSS is a consideration ....

If the VFR1200 is a keeper then spending the extra on a Nitron is worthwhile Thumbs Up

When I replaced the OEM shock on the R1 with an Ohlins I very quickly realised that the front end needed some attention. The Ohlins front springs complemented the shock fitment considerably Thumbs Up Cool Thumbs Up

Oh i'm definitely set on it. Consensus at the moment seems to be the R2 is overkill for the road. Have put K Tech springs in the front which are much, much better albeit I may get a piston kit

I've got an ohlins on the back of my Monster, with separate canisters for rebound and compression.

I've touched neither of them since I put it on the bike and TBH would rather have the bit of space back that they take under the seat.

If I was doing it again, I'd go for a 'basic' Nitron
