I called up to make changes to my wife's insurance policy and she wasn't present. Knowing they would want to speak to her I just lied and said I was her. They'd either assume I am a butch lesbian woman with a deep gruff man's voice, or I'm in a man's body with a man's voice but identify as a woman. Either way they're not going to challenge me or ask me to prove it. So just gave them her details, said I was here and made the changes. No questions asked. Simples!

So I was wondering... if a person born with male genitals were to sporadically and inconsistently (say for about a 30 minute period, once a year coinciding with the insurance renewal time) be confused as to the gender they identify as... I wonder if one could obtain cheaper insurance...

Thinking

Further to that thought. I wonder if one could identify as someone without any motoring convictions and also identify as someone with a lower insurance category vehicle living in a less risky area.

Maybe that's taking it a bit far. But I certainly think there could be room to exploit the gender thing...

There's no longer an advantage between men vs women for insurance, thanks to feminists. However, I would imagine insurance companies have just shifted the risk assessment elsewhere - e.g. housewife vs pub landlord - note the gendering of these terms Wink

While technically possible to represent someone else if you know their intimate information I'd classify it as a "convenient white lie" which is still a lie and running your life on lies is a bit of a dark path to start on.

No, because quoting based on gender was made illegal a few years ago.

Aha! Wasn't aware of that. Ok fair enough!

Did seem unfair to me though really. Most women would disagree stating that they're statistically a lower risk. It's a can of worms though isn't it. I mean I don't know what the statistics are but it's highly unlikely that, say for example, pick two ethnicities at random, say people from an Asian origin are statistically exactly the same risk as people from an African origin (the chances of £ annual claims per head being EXACTLY the same for both groups is highly unlikely). So one is bound to be more risk than the other. If it's fair to discriminate against someone based on their gender it should be fair to discriminate against someone based on their ethnicity right? Hence I guess why gender quoting was abolished...

tl;dr calls will be recorded and monitored so the insurance company have now got a recording of you committing fraud? Razz

They aren't. It's men getting screwed again by the system.

Actually women tended to get lower quotes so once again you are spouting bollocks.

LOL if you truly want this sock's misogynistic view (which I don't think you do but I'll give it anyway). Women probably ARE lower risk as far as the insurance companies are concerned as they tend to have fewer high cost smash ups but more car park bumps and bollard incidents parking/manoeuvring. Men tend to have fewer bumps and scrapes but more high speed crashes. So yeah, men probably cost more to insurance companies than women. Does that make women better drivers? I would argue no. Men are more capable drivers when they want to be but tend to make more stupid and reckless decisions than women. Generally.

So they just “base it on risk” now, and of course they say women are safer drivers. Nothing actually changed, just the terminology for why you pay more as a man.

There's a tendency for men to do jobs with travel; businessman in his 7 series, HGV driver, hell! couriers in general are >90% men. Therefore men have more accidents by dint of more miles.

Equality cares nothing for reality.

No, they are specifically excluded from using gender based risk decisions of any sort.

Whenever I get insurance, or any finance service for that matter, I always request for my wife to have access to change and amend. She does the same, that way it does away with having to raise my voice several pitches when phoning up on her behalf.

As for the gender war:
Me - driving for 28yrs, 2 accidents both 100% 3rd party fault (both on bike, none in cars), no points and never had any. Attended my first SAC last week, before that never been caught speeding.
Wife - driving for 30yrs, multiple accidents, multiple speeding fines, currently on 9 points with 3 due to disappear next year.

And I'm the speedster in my family! Rolling Eyes
