Ceramic coating ?

Has anyone had their bike ceramic coated, if so do you think it's worth it and how much did you pay?

Looking to get my Tiger 800 coated, so far been quoted £429 for an 8-year coating including wash, decontamination and stage 1 polish.

I've never even heard of this. What kind of ceramic coating, what bits of the bike do they apply it to exactly? I'm just curious now.

Save a lot of cash, if your new to all this stuff can I recommend CarPro Lite, maybe even CarPro CQUK 3.0 if your confident enough

It's on paintwork. Just avoids the need to wax it for 8 odd years.

Seen it used on a wheelerdealers episode.

I would imagine it's only really any useful for garage queens.

You can get exhausts ceramic coated but it's a totally different process (think in terms of glazing on pottery.)

This helps with containing the heat inside the exhaust so for most purposes it's not something most people would bother with.

if your going to coat an exhaust/engine, ideally you want a coating that can cope with some heat, for this maybe go with CarPro DLux

Wheelerdealers have used both in the past and they aren't really known for promoting snakeoil so I would suggest not.

I've used Avalon King stuff on my bike, after watching a chase on 2 wheels youtube vid. it definitely works, however preperation is everything.

Think i only paid about £40 with a discount code. Applied it around easter time, so not sure how long it will last, but at the moment its working well.

we must be talking of different things/products

you can apply a ceramic coating, similar to a bodywork one, to engines/exhausts, and its a very similar product to the paintwork stuff, its normally whats used on wheels to handle the heat from the brakes

if you do look at these coatings and your not used to using them, can i steer you away from KKD R-Evolve, its a bit too much of a heavy duty coating for a beginner to use and you might make a mess of it

You can get kits of the stuff for £10 on ebay....

Save the £429 for a bloody good trip touring! Will give you a hell of a lot more enjoyment than watching water bead off your tank

Really common in the car detailing world.

Personally I prefer spending a fraction of the price on a good sealant and applying it once every 2-4 weeks and it will have a similar effect.
