best roof for simple old garden shed

Shed roof's started leaking and it's just the standard felt kind - but i see there are new and better materials these days - like that corrugated black stuff, which looks decent and easy to fit, and also metallic pieces that have a Grenfell type coating - durability and dryness are main criteria

obviously, and as ever, budget's a consideration - ditto ease of fitting ; - )

I've just finished re-roofing my garages and an attached storeroom with that corrugated black stuff. It's called Onduline, it's pressed bitumen and is totally waterproof.

I bought mine from Wickes at £13.00 a sheet. Most places are around £18.00. It's 3mm thick and needs support every couple of feet. I bought some shuttering ply and covered the roof with that first, then laid the Onduline on that.

It looks great. If I knew how to put pictores up on here, I'd show you, lol.

This stuff makes a very strong roof due to the design, you put the (correct) fixings in the dip not the high part.
Have replaced two old rusty iron shed roofs with it and looks a bit like slates the colour we used.

I'd go for EDPM rubber roofing. It's a doddle to apply, it's tough and it never leaks.

Firestone make rubber roofing material. It's great stuff, the beauty being that it's seamless.

If it's an awning type roof the most problematic job is ensuring a good deal that stay structurally stable for years.
Lead flashing works well but cutting into mortar the wrong way can create damp problems in the main building (If it's a building wall).
It's not easy to get stuff to stick to brickwork.
So some research may be required. And every kunt will have their own proven favourites.

That onduline looks good.
I've got wavy-cement-asbestoes/some other fibre too on my garage. It looks good new but is a harbour of vegetation, moulds and lichen.
Pressure washing helps after a spray with Me yes the day before.

I've got a Firestone rubber roof on both the garage and the dormer window in the house. Been on for a few years now and is great. Laid on top of some fairly thick OSB and jobs a good 'un. Felt is rubbish, even the "high quality" stuff isn't great. Corrugated sheeting is OK needs plenty of support. I used clear stuff on my old log store - it did work but I suspect wouldn't last a long time. That said, it's cheap and easy to replace.

Or, as mentioned, tiles are the ultimate long-term solution, but you need a structure capable of taking the weight. Once done though they're solid, actually allow some ventilation and will last as long as you will.

I never understand why people still persevere with felt when EPDM is £8 a spare Meter, has zero joints up to 30M x 15M and just needs laying on top of a wood base with water based glue.

An entire garage roof will cost well under £200 with edge trims, take an hour to lay down and will last 20 years plus. When it develops a hole, either patch it with off cut rubber sheet or glue a whole new layer on top.

My Firestone EPDM garage roof is over 20 years old now and still water tight.
