Just curious. Making it a poll to keep secret.

Say you needed or wanted a quite expensive part for your bike but couldn't afford it. You get offered it at a real bargain price but you know its stolen, would you take it ?

But you only know it's stolen if the seller has told you that.....

If your buying from breaker (which I have been) you have to trust that the bike parts have come off a broken bike rather than a stolen one.

No, Im not.
There is obviously a market for them otherwise bikes would not be stolen to be broken up.
I'm not expecting anyone to say yes, I got a steering damper for £30 down the pub.
Thats why i made it a poll.

No, I wouldn't.

How would you feel if your bike was nicked, stripped and then your mate said he'd happily buy the parts off your stolen bike from some dodgy geezer in a pub selling them. Confused

I'd feel the same as everyone else.

I put this up as a discussion not as my pov.

No!! never would i knowingly purchase stolen parts.
People who buy stolen parts are as guilty as the theif, is there's no market for the parts then the bikes wouldn't get nicked and stripped thus hicking up your insurance.

I'd love to catch a scummer trying to nick 'big mamma', oh dear it would be entertaining.

Huge, another user of the music/films didn't lose out because the music was shared, not stolen. Doesn't put anyone out of pocket*

By stealing music, we are putting the record companies ect in the shit, not fueling crime.

Can't you see the hypocrisy in that? I'm sure the record companies hate people stealing their music as much as we hate people stealing our bikes.

I hate hearing of people losing their bikes, but I have to admit, I'd buy nicked parts. At the end of the day, someone else will buy them and refusing to buy something nicked isn't exactly going to end bike crime, because there will ALWAYS be a market for it.

Thumbs Up

Erm...

Well wouldnt like to think my bike had been nicked and sold...

So I wouldnt like to think I was buying somebody elses bike...

BUT, If they arent Data tagged, and your going to spray them. Then why not. Thumbs Up

They have already been nicked, So the dammage is already done...

Err, so you wouldn't mind your own bike being nicked then? After all, if someone can get an exhaust for a tenner down the pub it's all worth it isn't it Confused

If no-one bought stolen bike parts there would be a lot less bikes getting nicked. IMO by buying stolen bike parts you are contributing and partly to blame for all bikes that are stolen for parts.

If i were to ever buy bike parts that were stolen (which i wouldn't ever do) i would expect to be shot by the part's orignal owner.

I probably would being honest but I'd like to think that I wouldn't. Razz

One thing, you say "if you know its stolen" but how would you ever know? The seller isn't exactly going to tell you where they got it from, most ZX6R parts I've sold haven't had any questions asked (no, the bike isn't stolen before anyone asks Razz ). Unless it is kids you're not going to able to tell or know that the parts are stolen as anyone with a few brain cells will be able to think up some type of cover story and remove any traces of it being stolen.

Food for thought, I know that sales of stolen parts shouldn't be supported but how many people who have bought parts second hand (breakers, forums, or eBay) knew for certain before buying that the parts weren't stolen? Thought as much. Wink

You have to trust that the parts didn't come off a stolen then broken bike!

Unless you can check every datatagged/smartwatered/whatever panel and part then it is down to trust. I'm told even some police forces don't know how to use the tag readers properly so there are no guarantees.

I always wounder with ebay, often see full fairing with not a scratch going on there. Some will be spare plastics from race bikes but im always suspicious.
