Having a sniff around these of late. My trip to the bike show left me with about 5 bikes that ‘fit’ and this is one.

The Ninja 650 is out as it is an update of what I have, and as lovely as the Himalayan is, I don’t think it would do as my only bike.

So the thou’, any positives, negatives, experiences, warnings?

I kinda think you can’t go wrong with most modern stuff. My local bike fetter reckons anything Japanese is fine and a little cheaper to keep going, so any experiences?

No experience with that bike specifically. In my opinion, Kawasaki makes really good motorcycles. The two I had were problem free for the 4 years that I owned them. A friend at work had a ZRX1200R with over 300,000 miles on the clock. Only issue was a leaking radiator at around 200K. I personally would not hesitate to pull the trigger on the Z1000SX.

fancied one me sen to replace the zx9r but in the end just got another 9 - it was £5-6k against £2k. What's the zksx got that the 9 doesn't? Answer - about 15kg. Why is a newer bike significantly heavier. The sx seems to have a rep for lack of seat comfort too. The 9 is imo very comfy - probably slightly more weight on wrists but that's fine for me. However the sx is definitely a better tourer - good luggage options, e.g. But I avoid touring at all costs. I'm way more into little-and-often than an intercontinental annual splurge. If i went for the sx i'd be after one w/ akras because those weird stock efforts look heavy AF - probably where the extra 15kg is hiding. I don't want noise but I would want less weight.

I had a 2014 model for 18 months or so. Only got rid because it didn't have a full fairing. I part exchanged it for a ZZR1400 from the Superbike Factory and got a very good deal. I found it to be quick and manoeuvrable and enjoyed riding it.

I have a 2017 WHF and would happily trade for the new one.

New has a single can, all digi dash and quick shift up and down.

Personally I like the panniers as you can fit a full face lid in. And if you want sports you can take panniers off and have a bike that doesn't look like it had them.

Sure the seat is a little hard if you like it softer but as an all round bike it takes some beating.

I test rode one a few years back. It didn't want to turn, it felt like a giant scooter. It didn't feel particularly potent.

So I went with the Suzuki GSX-S1000F instead. Feels much more potent, turns nicely, is comfortable and fast. I think the new GSX-S1000GT is going to be the superior of the two between it and the Z1000SX, as it fixes the minor issues with the 1000F.

Wot Trev said. When I was looking at getting a new sports tourer last year, the Z1000SX was top of the list. They've got a really good rep generally. The GSX-S1000F was on the list too. The only reason I didn't pull the trigger was that when I went and had a look at them, neither stirred anything in me, looks wise. I know you don't look at the bike when you're riding it, but I have feel a least a bit of a "phwoar" factor from a bike if I'm spending that kind of money. So I ended up getting the VFR800 for my "general purpose motorcycle" needs while I made my mind up, and then keeping it and getting the Striple (which 100% has the phwoar factor).

But if I had to have only one bike, it would probably be a Z1000SX (but I'd definitely be test riding the GSX-S1000F too).

Never had a problem with turn in - but then not on the OEM tyres (nor am i on factory fork springs or ride height) I had them removed and fitted PR4 which have been brilliant and when they wear out, will get changed with PR5 or PR6.

Had a 13plate. Brilliant bike. Only got rid because it was impractical when following a moped at 20mph on a CBT. Keep looking at newer ones and the new gsxs1000gt and then trying to convince myself I'd get to use it properly!

The snag with the GSX GT is, it’s brand new, no pre-owned (depreciated!) models available. Added to which the chap on the Suzuki stand at the NEC reckons there are going to be few about. The lack of calls from the dealer I contacted about a test bears this out.

Yes, but it replaces the GSX-S1000F which is pretty much the same except no factory luggage and no colour screen.

Bear in mind too that weight-wise it's zksx = 235kg, gsx-s = 215kg

I got a 2020 plate z100r. Last of the generation, they are not making them new anymore. Great fun bike to play on.

Checked insurance, a £130 hike over the ER6.

Not bad considering £30 of that is ‘admin fee’ Rolling Eyes

This. I am actually really interested in the new GSX-S1000GT. When summer comes around and if Mickey Oates in Glasgow has a demonstrator one, I might be selling both my bikes and picking that up.

To date only three bikes have really tickled my future fancy:

1. Suzuki Katana,
2. Suzuki GSX-S1000GT,
3. Ducati SuperSport.

I also liked the look of the Royal Enfield Meteor as a pottering about, lazy slow rider but then got talked out of that by some people on here. Probably going to end up with just one really nice bike.

You're the feller who has had an ER6F for 5 minutes, already crashed it once and you want a 1000cc? Probably not a great idea.

To be fair, I have put close to 7,000 miles on the odometer since then Embarassed

Aarrghh! I’m so conflicted! Bigger bike or not bigger bike? I am slightly worried about doubling my bhp. I’ve only had my 6F a year and a bit and have probably done fewer miles than FAS.

OTOH lots of BCF’ers be like, “Get a super sport, so what!?”

Went from a 125 to a cb500 to the z1000.

Zero issues. Its a doddle to ride.

Thumbs Up
I found the change of posture and handling more challenging than power increases. Litre sportsbikes (in-line fours, anyway) are well behaved at slow speeds unless you’re cack-handed, but with any previous bike experience you’re unlikely to have that trouble. I was almost disappointed the R1 didn’t fight me on the way home. Once you get used to it and turn the throttle a bit more that’s when you understand what it can do, but you’re in control.

I looked at them a while ago but saw a lot of complaints about the front end and a not inconsiderable amount of people saying 2nd gear had failed.

I'd look at the GSXS100F/GT if I ever sell my VFRZ
