Firstly Hi all, pleased to be here, first post for me.

Question, is it easy or possible to get a replacement registration number?
I don't mean a personalised or private plate, just a different number plate.
Has anyone done that?
Cheers B1N

Mate you can go to Halfords and get a new plate. Just take your V5 document for whatever vehicle it is with you.

I'm not sure. People do end up with different registrations sometimes when they put a personal plate back on retention, but I'm not sure if you can cut out the middle man. Why do you want a new reg?

I am now confused, does he mean getting a replacement number plate: the physical number plate showing a registration of a vehicle he already has? In which case it's easy as fuck just to go buy a replacement.

Or, is he looking to buy another registration?

OP. What are you doing?

It doesn't bother me at all but the reg has 'CRH' in it, the wife hates it, she says when she watches me disappear up the road all she can think of is CRASH!
I love the bike, I'm not thinking of getting rid of it anytime soon.

Gotta love that your username is also a synonym for crash. Laughing

I know you'll get issued another plate if you remove a private plate (which may or may not be the same as the original plate), but not sure you can ask DVLA to change your plate just cos you don't like the current one. Just get a cheap private plate and call it a day.

Just tell her it would be far too ironic for it to actually mean anything.

Replacement frame with V5, if you can find one on Ebay. Switch everything over just before insurance/tax renewal is due. Then you'll get a new plate.

Just make sure it's a late 2016 model so you could end up with CR66 ASH

A practice known as 'ringing' and expect the filth to take a dim view if they find out because they will assume it's a stolen one.

Yeah that would work but I'd lose the matching frame and engine numbers, I'd have to think hard about whether I'd want that.
It would be a free solution though as I could sell my existing frame and V5 afterwards.

I suspect wifie would have an issue regardless of the plate.
Does she let the kids ride on the back?

If you're serious about doing this, then buying a so-called 'cherished' number plate is the way forward. They can be got very cheaply (but you also have to pay a DVLA fee for swapping them every time, obviously.)

EG, this character on ebay is flogging them for as little as £25 on a buy-it-now:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/dnc428/m.html?item=144291153615&LH_ItemCondition=3&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1&_trksid=p2046732.m1684

Personally I'd rather spend it on petrol, but each to their own...

Loads of DVLA private plates are entirely meaningless. Just buy one, if you can find one age specific and with
maybe your initials. £250 budget will give you lots of choice.
