Rear is now below the legal limit and the front is starting to square off.

Had RS11s on the FZ1. Not a fantastic choice. Seemed like a good idea at the time but while they are road-legal, they're trackday-orientated, take a while to heat up and probably inferior to S22s for real world use? Is that fair to say?

So looking at getting S22s to replace the S21s that the MT10 came with however someone has suggested T32s which I initially poopooed saying they're touring tyres, mileage and cost aren't really at the top of my priority list I just want the tyre that will perform the best in the real world for my usecase.

I don’t commute on the bike however I do use the bike to go to Cambridge and back on average once a week all year round. Even in the summer there can be a bit of gravel in the road and damp patches from water mains leaks etc. round where I typically ride enthusiastically at the weekends etc. and someone suggested that T32s would be better for me as 75% of typical riders wouldn’t take the S22s to their limits whereas as T32s would be slightly better for sporty riding in imperfect conditions.

Is there some credibility to this sentiment? Or are the S22s going to be better in all cases except heavy rain and getting higher mileage?

I think I'll stick with Bridgestone in any case.

Bridgestones aren't my favorite. I am a convert to Pilot Road 5s to be honest.

Yep I've heard a lot of people rave about Michelins, and while I've been slated for this in the past for just being a Jap fanboi, I just kinda think... Japanese bike... Japanese tyres. Makes sense.

Nah. The manufacturers make the tyre for the bike. Honestly the Michelins are like magic.

Pilot roads or Metzeler roadtec (I think that's their name) are all I'd want to use.

When I get another go go bike, it'll be one of those 2.

my bike's tyre sizes are the standard 120/70 and 180/55 and the last pair i bought were Pirelli diablos (i think they're discontinued?) for £136 for both front and rear from demon tweeks

This was back in November iirc - now got 3k on them and they're just starting to square, but i reckon they will be good for 4k providing i don't start caning it away from the lights now the roads are getting drier

The tyres I fitted about four pairs of prior to that were b-stone T30s which have a different and less sporty profile, and which I once got 10k on (down to chord), but more realistically were good for maybe just about seven...just...and ideally they probably needed replacing at 6.5k or less

These were nearly twice the price of the diablos and not really worth it - the diablos are better in the wet, imo, and almost as good in the dry, although what i might say is that the T30s are comfier and create a plusher feel for the ride, but it's much of a muchness tbh and i'm not sure i'd be able to tell in some sort of blind test

i'm waffling - SOME cheap tyres seem to be quite good, but then again, if you've got to pay fitting cost (about £50 for me), you have to remember to factor that in, then it starts to look like it all evens out

Honestly modern sports touring tyres are brilliant, realistically if you're riding 90% on the road at non-suicide speeds then I don't think you need stickier rubber.

I recently moved from Pilot Road 5s to T32's and honestly no noticeable difference, the Bridgestones are just as good, I don't think most people could tell one from the other in a blind test.

All that said, the most important thing is your personal confidence in the tyres on your bike. If you don't trust what's under you you won't be comfortable.

Pilot Road 5's on my ER6F. Absolutely blown away by them and can't recommend them enough.

Hmm a lot of people advocating for the Pilot Road 5 Thinking

Are these considered a sport touring tyre or a sport/street tyre?

They are a performance street tyre. The old categories of 'Sports touring' and 'fast road' are basically meaningless with this tyre. Sure, there are better track tyres out there, but for the road? I can't see anything being much better, even considering the broad amount of conditions it works under.

Unless you are doing trackdays, you wont be overworking Pilot roads. Also consider the bike, This a mt10/fz1? Ive been running budget conti-motions on my fazer 1000 simply as the rear goes a lot faster and its a lot less monies for a pretty standard commuter tyre. I Would not trust it as much as as a PR, but then you just give the tyre some respect for its capabilities.

Worth being realistic with how hard you use the bike and what you actually need tyre wise for the cost. In most respect, its hard to buy a bad bike tyre tbh.

Another vote for Road 5s. No they're not a track tyre, but they are very effective road tyres that will provide fantastic levels of grip in both the wet and dry, plus seem to be pretty hard wearing too. They're not cheap though, but tyres do an important job so I think it's worth it.

Three things you don't cheap out on: tyres, suspension, brakes. Good ones always do a good job at extending your life expectancy compared to cheap ones.

Wow a lot of votes for the Road 5s, nearly enough to convert me but the sperg in me resists still.

Seen a lot of glowing YouTube reviews (professional such as MCN/Bike Social and also from average end users) regarding both the S22s, and indeed the T32s, but especially the S22s.

This thread seems to have turned into a brand debate rather than a sports/street tyre vs sports touring tyre debate, so taking it upon myself to make a logical decision, while the T32s may give better grip in imperfect conditions, I'm less likely to be pushing it in these conditions, and the S22s have been highly regarded as a good all-rounder including in the wet etc. so I've decided to go with the S22s.

Laguna Maidstone quoted me £193 just for the rear tyre.

A mate who runs a large tyre shop near me can supply them for £95 front and £120 rear. I think that's pretty good. Getting both tyres for the same price that Laguna were going to charge me for one. Happy with that Dance!

Good on ya. I was a fan of the Michelin Pilot Road tyres, until I mounted a set of the PR4. Similarly, I was a fan of HD, until I bought an FLH in 1980. Never again. Metzler Roadtec 01 are superb on my BMW.

Another Road 5 fan here. Profile takes a bit of getting used to but the overall performance is very confidence inspiring.
