I was doing my routine ebay scroll and came across this...thing.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325073047971?hash=item4bafdd11a3:g:dxQAAOSwaldiGmgh

Bored out, cbx head and 6 speed, some things I'd like to have in mine, I'd fancy another cb as a cheap hack after I left mine abroad.
It'd need a mudguard, and some other things I don't like but I think it's not too shabby.

That monoshock conversion though...do they ever come out good or are they more of a death trap vs original design?
Don't want to spend a full day travel to come home disappointed from a test drive.

It's like any major mod. If it's well done, it'll be fine. If it's done by a moron who hasn't done the right calculation for the linkage ratio, it's a deathtrap.

I can't believe that old dross like that is going for £1700. The current bump in bike prices is ridiculous. The interesting part is, bikes from £3-5000 seem to have not risen that much, so I'd advise you just to save up more pennies and buy something that is standard.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I always regard them as a fuckwits form over function bodge
unless its absolutely proven to be otherwise.
It's almost always done primarily for looks
1 in 1000 might, just might, have been designed and been done with suitable forethought and planning using suitable materials and good engineering practise

If its such a good idea why didn't Honda/Yamaha etc do that?

That swinger is looking a bit spindly for a monoshock

I have to agree. That's a lot of thin metal sticking out behind that bike. Even if it's strong enough, it looks sh1t.

I can't tell how that linkage is supposed to work.. need better pic I think. also the top mount isn't visible.
As a result of the conversion the airbox has been eliminated and so it has pod filters. Supposedly these cause issues on CV carbs... Confused

Not only that - wheres the mudguards Rolling Eyes

Is it a DIY mono shock conversion or is it purchased from a company who knew what they were designing?

It might not be a death trap but I wouldn't expect it to be any good unless they've shelled out for the work to be done by appropriate suspension people who know what they're doing.

Some look right, some do not look right.

That one does not look right. Don't know why, it just doesn't, there's something amiss with it.

Anyway, only reason I can think of to not have used a single side gull-arm swinger would be to keep the original rear wheel, and they haven't done that anyway.

I just find bikes that were built with fairings have terrible asthetics when the fairing is removed, howerver good the paint job and the attention to detail. They always look like what they are, a crashed bike repaired on the cheap.

With the exception of a goldwing. Those look boss as a naked bike.

An R1 with twin spots and flatbars looks pretty good too.
