I think I know the answer but being a cheap bastard
maybe I need a realty check.
The Metzeler rear tyre on my lovely scoot has tendency to go flat over a week or two and while it has some decent tread left on it
I noticed the date code is 1315
I think this means the 13th week of 2015

While I have the wheel off to fit a new disc should I get a new tyre?
So options are:

1 G'wan, do it ya cheap bastard
or
2 Keep pumping it up and run it down to the canvas

It only accounts for what ... 3/4 of the total amount of rubber on the road? What's the worst that could happen?

Not ancient, seen a lot older.

Don't forget that a tyre can be stored for a while before fitting and there is probably a law, but certainly up to 5 years from manufacture is feasible. If stored out of sunlight and in stable temps, tyres last a long time on the shelf.

I've heard some quote the 6 or 10 rule, 6 years if outside all the time and 10 years if it lives in the garage.

In the summer 2020 we had a blowout on a hired motorhome and the new tyres they fitted had a 2018 date on them. So it always pays to look at your new tyres too.

Yep its an outdoor dog so plenty of UV exposure.
On closer inspection there was some cracking on the side walls
so played it safe and squandered good beer money on it.
