Well that is one explanation for my cognitive acuity.
Here is a photo of my helmet after the last time I made an unplanned manoeuvre off my bike. Did it save my life? possibly. Certainly saved my handsome mug from unsightly injury. Trashed the helmet before my wife could see it. That in itself should prove that I'm not a brain dead idiot... just a regular idiot. Rolling Eyes

I actually ride slower on my bike on the motorway than I drive in my car simply because of wind-blast.

I have a fully faired bike (ER6-F) with a touring screen and it would be uncomfortable for me to sit at 90mph. I cruise all day at 70mph but sometimes I do like going into the slipstream of an HGV and just chilling there for a little bit.

5 point harnesses are generally present when the car has a roll cage, and usually have to be used because contact with the roll cage tends to destroy meat sacks. Similarly, once you've got a cage you need a helmet, and also with a 5 point harness you then ideally in FIA Level races need a HANS device.

For normal road driving none of that is necessary. So no, a 5 point harness is NOT better than a 3 point seatbelt on the road. You can guarantee that some moron would have mandated it by now if it were.

I know this is slightly off topic but anyone had one of those dreams you're riding your bike without a helmet?

I've had it a few times and woke up feeling relief it wasn't real.

Thanks to a tendency towards laryngospasm I don’t think I’d be able to breathe. I had to leave a 4D cinema when I discovered that the 4th D was an unexpected blast of cold water in the face (Arctic exploration documentary), and when I used to visit the barbers (I bought clippers during Covid lockdown) a blast of hairdryer in the face would nearly kill me.

Shut up and take my money Thumbs Up

I propose an attachment releasing Chlorine gas to deal with interior fogging as well as wasp removal.

There may be a downside I'm not seeing.

Oh well, the more you know and all that.

Was curious how many Sikhs there are in the UK, census data from 2011 showed 432,439. Then thought what percentage of the general population was bikers well in 2020 there was 1,270,000 motorcycles registered in the UK. Obviously a large number of bikers own multiple bikes but for conservativity we will pretend they don't.

UK Population = 67,220,000 (2020)
UK Motorcyclists = 1,270,000 (2020)
Percentage of population who are motorcyclists = 1.89%

UK Sikh Population = 432,439 (2017)
Sikh Motorcyclists = 8,173
Percentage of people in the who are Sikh motorcyclists = 0.012%

Not many with that exemption.

I admire your seat-of-the-pants analysis, but it's probably an over-estimate - not all Sikh men wear turbans, by quite a margin. Secondly you need to adjust for gender (I'm not sure this would probably shift the estimate up). Lastly, the relevant metric should probably be 'motorcyclists exempt from helmet requirements' rather than share of the population. You could probs then compare that to trikes and quad riders (although many of those will still choose to wear a helmet).

On a related note one frequent feature of my dreams/nightmares is that I find myself riding without a helmet - which usually prompts an "oh shit what am i supposed to do" and triggers me waking up.

I am not an ATGAT guy at all, but I think anyone who rides without a helmet is a lunatic. I ride a lot without any form of protective trousers, jacket or boots. I ride a lot in trainers and just wearing normal jeans with a t-shirt and hoodie. There are only two things I will always ride with and that's my helmet and gloves. I wouldn't ride without either.

Third time was our own Virus who stacked a pitbike while riding it around pished, no helmet. Landed on his head so no harm done, steristrips applied to hold his brains back in.

Whilst I dont suggest riding around pissed with no helmet on the roads, it is hilarious fun in a field, especially when you return your mates pitbike covered in blood. Laughing

Have ridden on the road a few times without a lid. Every time has been a biker funeral, one including me doing some of the outriding/road blocking and the first car that pulled up to the junction I had blocked was a marked police unit. Neutral Luckily they decided to turn a blind eye once they saw the herse followed by 50 odd patched up bikers.

One of our Mason/Pavers is a motorcycle riding Sikh (600cc Jap thing I think). He did some work for me at Aldgate and had to also go into a building site to finish off something and apparently he is also exempt from wearing a hard hat with his PPE. This from a site that insisted you wear protective glasses and gloves to just look at a hole.

Somewhat ironic, no?

(Out of interest, why would you specifically not wear a helmet for a funeral?)

I remember hiring scooters on holiday with no licence and no helmet and riding them absolutely stupidly while drunk. Even had my mother on the back riding round Magaluf...inebriated.
