I decided it was about time to fit my trusty old Givi top box to the scooty
and couldn't make up my mind on where/how to attach it to the grab rail.

I looked online to see if there were any SH/cheap ones knocking about.
There weren't but I did find some pics to help muse over the method to use
Some looked a bit weak and flimsy to me and then I found a pic of one which was handy
in that I hadn't realised there were mounting holes on the underside
of the scoots hefty grab rail I could use.

Aha! now I have a plan
I checked the 4 x M8 mounts all had good threads then bought 2 Meters of 30mm angle 4mm thick
and started chopping it up and drilling holes.

I fitted the two underslung mounts and lined up some angle for a cross bar which had to tilted
so the top edge was more or less inline with the level line of the scoot and tacked it on.

After that I kinda made it up as I went along and forgot to take any more pics until it was
all welded up and etch primed then painted.

I didn't want to rely on the threads underneath taking all the weight so the cross bar sits on top of the rear edge of the grab rail so as to help distribute the load
The shop bought rack shown above mentions a max weight of 5Kg and that seems kinda light to me
I wont be throwing lorry batteries in it but like wider margins than that and it took my 92 Kg without snapping or tearing the bolts out

It weighs 1.5Kg

As usual the pics tend to flatter but it is as least strong
I didn't have any anti spatter and couldn't be arsed to go and buy some so got a nice err 'textured' paint effect in places where I couldn't get a flap wheel in flash the nibs off.

I was struggling to get consistent welds after adjusting the power and speed and wondered if my £25 welder was dying
I realised eventually that the feed speed adjuster knob was loose on the shaft and the feed rate stuck on too high a speed.
Turning the shaft by hand got me back on track.

I've got quite bit of stowage space on the old thing now with the top box adding the very useful underseat stowage
