Copperslip or something else?

Overhauling the brakes on the GSXR, new pads etc. I'm old school and have always used Copperslip on the pins/back of the pads but is there any modern alternative that is better?

Better? I'm curious as to how you might consider copper grease needs improving

The crucial thing front brakes is a lubricant that can handle high temperatures. Lithium grease for example would be totally the wrong thing to use as it has a much lower dropping point (basically when it turns to liquid.)

It's not used as a lubricant in this senario but a damping agent to prevent the vibrations that cause brake squeal.

Never use Copperslip on the back of pads. It swells rubber and can lead to the dust seals dragging on the pistons.

I’ve just put a pair of new seals and pistons in the front caliper of ‘Project Scrappy Hyosung’.
I got the kit from EBC , there was a sachet Of grease in the kit specifically for brakes.

Maybe they sell the specific grease for brake parts separately ?

Red grease is formulated for pistons and seals and plays nicely with brake fluid. That's what came in your kit.

We are using a high temp grease to damp vibrations.

There's an aluminium equivalent to copperslip for use on pads - but it is late, I've had a drink and CBA to google it.

Didn't notice the pins bit. I don't normally grease them, just get them as clean and smooth as possible.

There's nothing wrong with using copperslip on the back of pads.

It provides lubrication to prevent pads chattering against the pistons causing squeal. Mechanics have been doing this for years. The idea is to use a very light smear on the piston contact areas only - not dollop the stuff on like a chav with a can of Lynx. Done properly there's no way it can ever contaminate seals or other rubber components and is highly effective.

Got the new SBS pads today, put them in with ceramic brake paste on the back of the pads. Cleaned the pins with scotchbright and polished with autosol, assembled with no grease on the pins. Thanks for the advice all, testing tomorrow!
