Just curious if anyone knows if ports allow for vehicles to be collected once off the ferry, rather than being ridden away from the port complex.

I've got a bike registered abroad which I used whilst away. I'm wanting to bring it to the UK to work on for a while whilst here, but obviously being foreign registered I can't personally ride it whilst in the UK on my UK licence.

Curious if anyone has done this? Figured I'd ask here before I go about contacting ports/authorities, transport companies etc..

Why not?

An unaccompanied vehicle is freight.

For UK residents, it has to be registered in this country before driving it on the roads.

I'm not talking about putting a bike on a boat or train itself.

I'm taking about riding it on and off but having it collected from the port.

From what I remember, when you ride out of the Channel tunnel you directly onto the public roads, which would be an offence.

There is probably a larger question here regarding those who are resident outside the UK. For example EU nationals that previously lived in the UK but moved to France after Brexit. They would have a UK licence since it can be used in France until it expires. Being a national of an EU country they would not have a sejour, or any formal document that showing they a resident of France. So should they get stopped by police whilst using their vehicle to visit friends in the UK, I wonder what would be considered proof of residence elsewhere.

Not if you aren't from the UK. Get one of those Ukranian economic immigrants to ride it out for you.

They're not going to let you take an unregistered vehicle on the ferry.

I'm confused, why do you think the vehicle would be unregistered?

There was no mention of that in the opening post.

Friends have driven imported vehicles (with forign plates) to MOTs (insurance via the VIN number) in order to get registered.
