Hello,
I got this little gem about six months ago and it is to be fair a diamond. Previous owner done a great job on the bike. I had one back in the early eighties and felt a bit of nostalgia creeping in However I am having issues with what I think is a carb issue. When riding if I come to a roundabout/stop/give way once hot she dies down and cuts out. Kicks straight away though. Any ideas? Also I notice when in store if I forget to turn the fuel off the overflow leaks? Do I need a new carb? Is there still kits available for float/needle etc and where can I get one please. Thx

Fuel overflow is sign of a stuck float on non sealing float needle. strip the carb down and replace gasket(s) and worn parts e.g. float needle.

same problem could account for stalling due to over-fuelling?

I would look on David Silver spares for a carb kit, or NRP in Manchester. They are reputable shops, random ebay sellers are not, and there are an awful lot of shit parts floating around at the moment.

Even with the carb kit, I would not replace the jets - I've had problems with replacement jets not turning out to be the right size. I would replace the float needle, and also the seat if it comes with the kit. Often it doesn't.

Check the float height too, in case it's wrong.

If you still get the same problem of engine stopping when you stop, but no other new problems, then start diagnosis. Most simple problem is just the idle speed being turned down too low. More complex problems are the clutch being slow to disengage - if this uses the C50/70/90 engine with a centrifugal clutch then a broken return spring or 3 could cause a problem. Could potentially be tight valve clearances, they're easy enough to check on that engine.

Check the exhaust valve clearance , it might be a bit tight- closing up when it gets hot, exactly the same thing happened to me on my 50.
