 |
|
Hi,
Need some advice on whether to buy a VFR.
Had always though about saving till next year than buying something maybe 5 or 6 years old for £2-3000.
I met a guy selling a '89 VFR locally for £1000. I don't think he'll move much, if at all on the price.
I spoke with him for a while, he seems genuine and honest. He also has a bandit 12 and a scooter.
I saw his workshop. He has done a lot of the work himself and seems pretty competent so im happy with that.

Bad points first,
1.cosmetically, it fucked! Every panel, even the grabrail is heavily damaged.
2. One of the carbs is blocked/ not working properly. Its rough on startup. (he does have used spares which would need fitting)
3. Its been sat for a long time unused
4. it has no space under the seat - whatsoever
5. clocks and dash look very old fashioned
6. Its got a very quiet exhaust
7. Exhaust has been sanded due to melted pillion boot
8. its 16 yrs old
9.its been crashed
10. tank has 2 dents
11. Rusted subframe (if i took the subframe to him he would organise to get it powder coated)
Good points
1. only 25000 miles 8000 less than the Fizzer
2.Michelin tyres, both almost new
3.Wheels are in exellent condition
4. Electrics are all good.
5. New battery oil/oil filter, plugs, fork seals, front tyre, air filter, rear brake pads and all the brake/clutch to braided hoses
6. Motad stainless exhaust
7.Auto chain oiling system with manual adjust
8. MOT till Aug 05 (only a few hundred miles since last MOT)
Overall it looks to be a good bike apart from all the fairing and tank damage.
Opinions??????
Thanks |

Is a 2nd hand R1 with a custom paint job and tarty bits worth 40% more that a un-touched one. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

I have a1988 NC24 like the one in your pick but in Rothmans colours, personally I think they are just fantastic, the one you picture above though is more than a bit tatty and from the points you mention I would only consider it fit for spares or repair.
They are a good solid bike and there are plenty around for the 1K mark your considering in much better condition.
can't see it being worth much more than £450
Cheers
