Is 3.00 the same as 300 in Tyre Size?

Hi all! I have an old CD200 with current tyres of 3.00 - 17. On wemoto the replacement tyre says it is 300 - 17 in size. Is this the same? Other tyre manufacturers also sell 300 - 17 tyres that I'm interested in, and I'm just making sure they'll fit.

3.00 is probably inches (like bicycle tyres) if they're old. 300 is likely to be mm (and much wider). Have you got a link to the wemoto tyre you're considering?

As an example, Metzeler sell a front tyre for classic bikes, the ME22. It lists the tyre sizes in the format you're expecting, like this - https://www.metzeler.com/en-gb/catalogue/product/me-22

This isn't a recommendation by the way, I've never tried them.

Hayabusas with 300 section back tyres look stupid. I can't imagine what a CD200 would look like with one.

Yep, dems inches
3.00 or 300 = 3" and is the width at the rim
300mm is about 12 inches

( I could insert a grossly tasteless comment on wanting a 12 incher but
stuck with 3 incher but this is BCF, we never do that sort of thing here)

Tyre sizes can be odd and confusing in that old imperial measurements are still often used and mixed with newer metric ones

Don't forget measure height of tyre as a ratio of the width.

It's not just the uk though. Do you really think tyres are made specially for the uk?

yes. I can't even think of the last time I bought a motorcycle tyre that wasn't inches.
