Sorry to read this.

I echo your comments on ensuring awareness on the roads. I came to a crossroads last night, only as the ambulance got to the blind crossroads did they put the siren on, giving me very little notice to grab a handful of brake.

Sorry for your loss.

I'm not sure that ambulances only putting on lights when they get to congested areas is a good idea and it always catches people out. Sure the patient inside the ambulance doesn't have to hear the wailing, but i'm sure it's safer for ambulances to have them on for the full journey for everybody using the road, regardless of times, traffic accumulation, road type etc.

Condolances.

What a strange occurrence, eh. Didn't that used to be one of those pub conundrums, along the lines of if you were hit by a vehicle on the road and that vehicle was an ambulance, were you lucky or unlucky? In this case, not so lucky then.

Sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear of this, for you, your neighbour, and for the ambulance crew too. A very sad situation.

Depends on the condition but I remember reading that for certain situations such as heart attack and stroke, the noise of the siren can statistically speaking lead to a worse patient outcome due to additional stress caused by the sound.

Bad for the guy killed and his family but also for the ambulance crew, they did not sign up for this. 48 years ago I almost got it from a fire engine, my fault but I still think about how close it was.
