Not sure if this is warrants inclusion in 'gears ground' or not really - it was just really odd!

I'm riding home after a great day out in Wales on Sunday. Clear, open road ahead of me, way out in the sticks. Life is good. Way ahead of me in the distance, down a long straight, I spot some pedal cyclists - as I close in on them I can see they are a couple of early-teenaged lads just dawdling along. I pull out to give them plenty of room, and as I approach they turn round to look at me. One of them is grinning and laughing uproariously, and I notice he's gesticulating with his right hand. At first I assume he's doing that thing that little kids on the pavement sometimes do when you go past - revving an imaginary throttle with their right hand and making 'vroom-vroom' noises. Quite endearing really; I'll maybe even wave or toot at them if I'm in the mood. Anyway. As I pass this pair, I realise that the kid is not revving his air-throttle, he's in fact making vigorous wanker signs at me. Huh? What? Why? It was utterly bizarre. First off, I'm just a random bloke on a motorbike minding my own business, not looking or doing anything untoward; and secondly, how did the little scrote know I wouldn't just pull over and kick his arse for him? I mean, I wouldn't have thought that on average, a biker was the sort of individual you'd risk pulling that on, just for kicks?

Anyway, I carried on my merry way. Just very bemused, really!

Might it have been they were gesturing for a rev-rev and as you blew them out they were upset?

It was a trap - probably calculated. Attempt at theft, I would guess. You did well to not stop.

Did they look like they could have been travellers?

Little kids do it, and 'grown up' chavs do it... Rolling Eyes

The last time, I was going downhill and a group of 20 somethings were walking up said hill, in their sports wear/shell suits. Making gestures of the above and one of a wheelie.

My gesture to them was the finger.

My wife always calls them "who-do-me-likies" which gets shortened to "hoojas" in a sort of bastardised local dialect of cockney rhyming slang Smile I mean, they have their own "secret" language with all sorts of names for us so, fuck 'em.

Tried to do the v62 for the GSX at the post orifice Mad

Appsrently my VIN is not long enough so I have to call the DVLA.
So I did - and got the "we're soooo overloaded with calls so you will just have to ring back" auto-spiel before getting cut off.

Just ride the thing anyway. The police are too busy with non-crime hate incidents and dancing the Maca...whatever it is, to pester you over anything else. Especially in that there London place.

I tried to ring them to clarify some details about registering my bike as a historic vehicle a few weeks back, same story as you.
My wife found an email address which worked, (took a few days for them to respond like), it was difficult to find an email address on DVLA website, much easier using google search.
I can send it to you if you want to try it.

So, after an address change and needing my photo changed on my licence I sent in the form and the cheque. Wanting
to keep the physical licence I have I marked the 'lost' box. Sent in by Royal Mail super duper recorded delivery at a cost of
about a fiver. About three weeks later the whole application is returned, seems I failed to fill in a box regarding a digital ID check.
Sensing problems ahead as my passport for some reason doesn't have my middle name on it I sent the passport in as well.
Another £6 on postage up the wall. Nearly 4 weeks later again and guess what? Yup, the entire application has been returned once more.

My bus licence entitlement is expired, haven't driven one in about 28 years. I have to have a medical before the entitlement
is valid again. I'm not interested in driving one again but sure enough enclosed is yet another form and a huge medical report
to fill in, thankfully there's the option to surrender that group, so hopefully this will be the end of it. So off I go to the Post
Office for attempt #3 and another £6 on Recorded delivery. Rolling Eyes

This means to change my photo on my licence at their behest it's cost £6.00 for photographs, £20.00 for a replacement licence
and so far £17.00 and counting on postage. W4ankers. Middle Finger Neutral Middle Finger I started this faff in JULY.

I’m currently listening to shit on the British Gas phone line, while I’m queueing to give them money. The talk over is saying I should give them the respect they give me - fair enough. However how is the company showing me ‘respect’ when I’ve been on the line for 30 minutes and now I’ve been given another to ring - to get the ‘right’ department - which is exactly the same as I rang originally? I’m not queueing again for this long. It’s not happening. They’ve got 5 minutes from now then I’m off. I’m here trying to sort out somebody else’s fuck up that’s been dragging on for over 2 1/2 years now.

I tried to apply online first as I usually use DVLA online stuff fine but wasn't able to for this because rules...
Just returned from post office and now I wait... This application went to the vocational section so god knows how long it will
be before they return it again because I forgot a full stop. The saga continues.... Rolling Eyes

The fun bit is it's just as likely to get lost if you sent it recorded as normal. If it does get lost they will deny all knowledge even if you can prove they received it because they just take all the mail in at a central office, open it then throw it in a sack for whichever office it's going to, recorded or not. They keep no record of what they have and have not received.

DIY grinds my gears.
I’m sh*t at DIY and find it really boring.
However it needs to be done .

Painting the door frames in the kitchen, gloss white.
The previous owner had painted them dark green Shocked Sick .
After much sanding down and two coats, the dark green is still showing through, wtf! Evil or Very Mad .
Oh well, another day painting Sad .

Yeah, I land up doing DIY and I'm also shit at it. What annoys me is I do a job with a lot of hours which pays reasonably well (but not as well as most people think). As such my time off is valuable and I would far rather pay someone to do these jobs for me. Trouble is, you simply can't get anyone.

I have a lot of painting that needs doing which I both hate and will do a bad job of. We set off looking for a painter decorator back in March. When we eventually found someone who actually returned our calls and then turned up to do a quote, he said he could probably fit us in in November...

I have been unable to get anyone to even return a call or email about pressure washing the outside of the house or supplying and fitting internal doors.

I can only conclude there is an economic downturn because people don't want to work. I'm fully prepared to pay someone to do this work but nobody will even offer to look at the jobs.

One thing my amateur painting has taught me is if you want to put white over a dark colour or a dark colour over white, you need a good primer first.

You can round the corner off with a pair of scissors which breaks the fine wire induction loop antenna built into the card and stops the contactless chip powering up. Doesn't affect the chip and pin function.

Not all cards are the same though, the loop sometimes runs in different places. On mine, I took the top right corner off (not by much, just radiusing it off). You can see the little wires embedded in the plastic.

I disagree, How many contactless users would have the technical knowledge to disable it?

I understand the technology and have decided it will work for me best when that particular feature isn't there.

Plus great ammusement on the odd occasion where a shopkeeper has snatched my card off me before I could put it in the machine and tried to do it via the contactless. It's happened twice now. Both times I took my card back off them and walked out of the shop leaving them to put the shopping away.

A makeshift lightbox will show where the antenna begins. Sever it close to the chip, and contactless will be disabled.

When my contactless debit card was nicked, Natwest's fraud team promptly cancelled the card and refunded me every bit of what the thief spent. They knew that I'd never used the contactless feature, ever, despite having had contactless cards for years. This made the fraudulent transactions easy to identify. After that incident, I called them and asked for a PIN-and-chip-only card. They provided me with one, but at the time of renewal they sent me another contactless. Rather than call them again, I cut the antenna.
