Plus great ammusement on the odd occasion where a shopkeeper has snatched my card off me before I could put it in the machine and tried to do it via the contactless. It's happened twice now. Both times I took my card back off them and walked out of the shop leaving them to put the shopping away.

WTF?! "Hand back the card or pull back a stump, buddy." The whole point of contactless is for the merchant not to lay hands on people's cards Rolling Eyes I'd quietly enquire as to their card processor (Streamline, Barclays, PaymentSense, GlobalPay, etc.) and dob them in.

Doesn't matter where you sever the antenna, it's an induction loop that powers up the chip. If you break the loop, no current can flow.

Do not want.

i shone a torch at the rear of my card. it outlines the wire coming from the chip. then i marked the wire close to the chip with a felt tip.
then its just a case of drilling through the pen mark with a small drill bit to sever the wire.

Because someone could steal my wallet then spend my money and I have to rely on the bank deciding to give it back. Much harder if they don't know my PIN.

Thing is they say they'll give it back but equally, they are not required to and banks are dicks.

It's even quicker when you can run a tab. Predates POS cards and still quicker.

How about going back to cash where they could steal a couple of hundred in notes if you lost your wallet?

Could be worse, your bank could have fucked your bank balance by giving you a contact less card.

Tbh, it doesn't really matter what banks do, I'll never completely trust them. Fortunately for me, I have nothing much in there for them to take. There are advantages to being skint Laughing

It's all a scam. "I was defrauded!" Sorry, we can't get the money back. "Why? You know where it went?!" Yes, but... reasons.

If it all went in an account and got drawn out as cash by a load of cashpoint mules I could understand but even so claw back the money from the ppl you sent it to. Oh? They won't agree to such terms? Don't do business with them ffs.

I never carry anywhere near that much cash for that reason, so having up to £100 contactless limit per transaction seems insane, especially in a not so great area (to put it mildly...).

I quite like entering my pin as it helps me remember it Smile

It's fucking primer grey. Like when people used to get an old beater, weld up the rust, fill the dents in and slap a coat of primer on but needed to drive it before they'd saved up enough to get it resprayed.

I usually think "Done a good job there, it'll look good once it's painted." when I see one.

How about using a way of paying which doesn't require carrying cash and is secured against casual theft by requiring the user to enter a code before it can be accessed?

Oh. Right.
