Im likely to sell the FZR by the end of the year. As its a 15 yr old bike depriciation isnt going to hit it much, but how can I ensure it keeps or improves its value?

There are many things you can do like anodised bolts and carbon effect plates, diddy indicators and a small plate to make you bike look the business but these things are unlikely to show any value to a potential buyer.

I'd even go as far to say the Micron can and goodridge braided hoses would only help make a sale if it was up against a simalar bike at the same price with standard gear.

What would/could you do to keep the bike's value up and the pennies in your pocket?

as soon as you buy you almost always loose money, just treat it well, keep it in good condition and when it comes to it give it a nice clean and find yourself a mug Very Happy (not the cup kind)

Leave it as standard as possible, it'll make alot more people interested in it.

People want untouched and original example of bikes in my opinion, the more original bits shows how well its been looked after.
Aftermarket parts make me think has the bike been down the road and the owner not bother to replace parts with OE ones and bought cheaper alternatives.

Things like braided brake hoses and race cans may add abit of value, but not much.

Keeping the tyres, chain and sprockets and any consumeables in good nick will help the buyers interest in the bike - the less they will have to APPEAR to spend on the bike, the better. Firs things I'd check on a bike are chain and sprockets, tyres, working clocks (just incase, stupidly expensive to buy a new set), smooth working clutch etc.

Aftermarket parts. hmm. If you have the originals, I'd put them back on but would throw the bits in with the purchase to entice the buyer. I'm hoping my next bike will come with aftermarket fairings, exhaust, single seat etc to stop me from having to buy the stuff Thumbs Up

Hi

Another vote here for keeping it standard.

Might be worth finding someone local who does professional bike valeting. Anything easily unbolted (rear footrest hangers for example) get shot blasted and powder coated (or just take them off and do it yourself).

Alloy fairing bolts are not going to add any value (and to plenty of people they will reduce the value). Braided hoses will help, a race can might but only if you have the original and even then will add less to the value than the cost of a race can.

Personally have it all clean and with anything slightly wrong but easy to fix replaced. For example consider replacing the clutch cable and lube all the control linkages (such as where the rear brake lever pivots on the footrest).

All the best

Keith

Personally I'd put it all back to standard bar the brake lines, and sell the aftermart bits on ebay seperately.

I wouldn't buy a bike covered in aftermarket trash. A race can alone is a big enough turn off, anything anodised is horrible.
