Do you give people the same advice when they've got diabetes, epilepsy, chronic pain, heart problems or any other of a multitude of aliments that prescriptions are given for?

This thread as initiated by the OP wasn't about clinically diagnosed depression, and exercise and getting out in the open definitely can help with milder cases, as can correct diet etc. I'd certainly recommend those things first if you're just generally a bit down in the dumps. If then they don't help, seek professional help as Shaggy has done, and as he has hinted, pharmaceuticals are not the only part of his treatment.
Gotta admit though, I'm always a bit worried about popping pills, prescribed or not, whatever it's for. That's something everyone has to make their own judgement on though.

I'm similar with psychedelics like LSD and psilocybin. I'm intensely curious about them, but I don't think I really want to try them recreationally now (I've had a couple of not very potent acid trips as a youngster). But in a controlled environment (set and setting) for general mental wellbeing? I'd be tempted, but don't feel a need for them, having read many accounts of people's experiences on them. When people with all kinds of backgrounds rate them in their top 5 most meaningful experiences of their entire lives, that kinda makes you sit up and take notice though.

I take 1000mg of Magnesium every day without fail, along with a multi vitamin and a calcium supplement. I do this
partially because I often go 24-36+ hours without food, I only eat once a day if I eat at all, so a 24hr fast is fairly usual
for me. It may be bunkum, but I can tell by my general mood if I miss a day of my supplements. My mood definitely deteriorates,
and I definitely saw an improvement after my first course of magnesium after I did some reading on the subject. Wouldn't be
without it now.

No not especially, I'm in a shit mood most of the time anyway, a huge well of anger lurks beneath some very thin ice.
It's about the only emotional response I'm capable of expressing. So to answer the question, I don't get 'hangry' since
I'm a walking cortisol timebomb anyway. After 24hours of not eating I usually have one meal, no dessert.
Yesterday that meal was a tin of beans on 3 toast eaten at about 7pm. I will want to eat at 7pm today but
should I ignore that urge it very quickly dissipates and I'll not feel hungry at all until 24 hours or so after my
next meal, whenever that may be. I do a 4 day fast about twice a year, sometimes more often. The hunger
goes away very quickly if not answered with food. Oddly by day 2/3 of a fast I feel a notable increase in energy
levels and as much as I'm capable of, a clearer mind. Bulletproof willpower (or sometimes won't-power) is a
fortunate side effect of a black and white thought process.

I think you'd be a good candidate for a targeted strong dose psychedelic experience.
Not in a recreational way, but actually considering what it is you want to address in your life, pre-setting your mind first, as it were.
Still, some people actually thrive on anger, it's what drives them to achieve things.

I'm saying that both as someone who relies on altering my brain chemistry with pills to function, and as someone who stretches every day but is also waiting for a more substantial medical intervention to fix my back.
What works for you doesn't work for me, and avoiding pills for my brain or painkillers when necessary would make things worse.
