Learn to ride properly first is probably a good idea.

I rode a Jawa 350 for three years until I had enough no claims, age, experience and money to be able to ride and insure a bigger bike.

Others will undoubtedly disagree with this course of action.

33bhp is 33bhp, people are restricted for a reason, if I had ~70bhp in my right hand I'd probably have a few more pairs of brown trousers.

Get what you feel safe with and can afford. I'm on a tourer 600, insurance is quite cheap, but it's very quick by my standards.

i know how good the rs is, i ride a 125 rs so the jump from 25 hp to 33 hp wont be that much surly? hence why i wont restrict it for long, and also the restrictors fall out apparently so its best to know if you have 60 bhp or 33!, i live near miles and miles of twisties so i know how good they are which is what got me looking closer at them (i saw one kick my arse the other week ) i dont want a busa i want something i will be comfortuble on and learn how to ride on road/track

Keep your current bike until you have some no claims!! my first year was £1500 fully comp for insurance on my RS125. Now i have a year NCB, its down to £900. Wait for your NCB and you will have a bit of a discount!

And i wouldnt advise going above a 400 if you dont have any NCB yet!!

125/250/400 are real bikes. Only marketing makes you think otherwise.

Family friend went to Greece on a CG a few years ago so are still capable machines.

You'll probably find a 400 is cheaper to insure than a 125 sports.

Agreed with the comments above. I believe that aslong you are on two wheels and are not a chav then you are a proper bike. Get a bike that suits your needs and not others.

there are better bikes to start on
but there not as fun

i rode my RS first time after a good 9~10 months on a zxr4, it felt like a toy i didnt like it. there seems to be no usable power so the step up isnt too small

and if your not a retard u can deal with a ~70bhp bike, just go easy dont get carried away

an rs 250/rgv 250/nc30 will keep up with ANYTHING in the twisties.....

Agreed, I dont have a problem. But do I ride a 'proper' bike Rolling Eyes define 'proper' as mine is even restricted and I can keep up with a 600 on the twisties. 600's have an advantage on the straights of course but 115mph is plenty fast enough for me at this point in time, to be honest I very rarely go that speed anyway.

i started on a 50cc, then a 125 @ 17 + 18 (tuning the 125 while i was there) and now im 19 on a bandit 6, "restricted" i feel confident and been riding a few months now with no problem

as people have said full power 600 is only dangerous if ur a retard and drive like a lemon

This is for me by the way, may be different for you because of us living in two different areas. I rang around LOADS! in the end Bennetts was the best quoting £740 fully comp, thought okay thats great then forgot about Virgin Insurance, Gave them a call, asked if i had a quote from anyone else said "yes bennetts for £740", said leave it with me... so was on hold a good 5mins. When he came back just goes £653.34 sound good to you mate Very Happy Thumbs Up

Paid my insurance there and then, 20mins later was insured and off i went on my lovely RVF after just riding a VanVan lol BIIIGGG difference Laughing

Andy

RS250
Gotta be.
They're not impossible to insure at 17.
