Aye, sounds like its down to Allianz pulling out and no replacement insurer can be found .. The glib 'brexit' throwaway line makes no sense if they're not support events in the Irish republic EU member state either. A British insurer could do themselves a favour by stepping in to cover this rather than relying on ze germans ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750, SL1000

Brexit isn't to blame for everything, there are very few things for which Brexit is entirely to blame. But it has contributed to making a lot of things in the UK slightly worse and provided basically no benefits at all.
The TL:DR of this article is that Brexit did mean that they needed to find a new insurer, but they found one a while ago, and it's that new insurer which has now told them they want a lot more money to cover them, which the organisers can't afford. So "brexit to blame" seems an unfair analysis.
EDIT - Also, this is just sad news, I love watching the NI road racing. ____________________ Current - '94 VFR750FR (Dead), '00 VFR800FI, '11 600 Hornet - Previous - '11 CBF125, '10 Street Triple R, '92 MZ ETZ301, '05 TTR250, NSR125R, KMX125, "Honda" Win

Brexit is to blame thus:
Previously when we were in the EU we had an agreement as part of that which meant financial services could cross borders. That meant that Northern Irish road racing could use an EU based insurer. Now we're out of the EU the law mandates they use a British insurer as financial services can't cross borders. No British insurer will cover the events because of the risk. If we had not left the EU there would still be Northern Irish road racing. |
Ironically it seem that the move to 'regulatory equivalence' between the UK-EU ( and hence the approval of a trading agreement in finacial services) is being held up by the 'impasse' over the NI protocol.
i.e EU digging its heels in.
IMO the whole Brexit thing turned bad only once folk realised the implications on the NI situation which hardly anyone foresaw.
PS still not sure if this is the reason that Allianz withdrew - did they not insure in 2022? ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750, SL1000
