sidestand down, sidestand light off.

sidestand up, sidestand light goes on

(I dont know if it ever worked properly as I'm rebuilding this bike, which was complete, just stood up for many many moons).

Things I have to add:
switch is oem, mounted correctly, and everything looks right. Switch meter correctly for continuity and for break in continuity.

I have the same problem as this here chap:
https://www.gixxer.com/threads/side-stand-switch.647394/

I also have suzuki of that era.

I'll go fix it maybe this weekend..a replacement switch is out of the question as it was unique to this bike and they just dont make 'em anymore.

Place bets on what is broken in switch..I'm dying to find out myself.

I'd just bin the switch and if necessary take out the bulb so the light is permanantly off.

for originality's sake I'd like to keep it and have it working..its minor kudos to me..thats how I view it. A fixable thing should be fixed.

I found dis https://www.gixxer.com/threads/dissection-of-a-kickstand-switch-and-proper-bypass.454209/

diode, magnet, reed switch. Gotta be the diode...gotta be..

Micro switches can be normally open or normally closed. Three pins.
You might be on the other pin.
The OEM will have a preference for open or closed.

Also there will (might) be switch in the gearbox and on the clutch lever.

Gearbox switch can be one issue.

Outside bet.

The switch is sometimes part of the stand assembly and the pivot goes through the switch then the stand.
The switch could be back to front.

Pictures help.
Followed your giver link. I can't see much in the pics there. It shouldn't really be so complex. Really.
