OK my gears were ground today.

Bought something in Germany and the vendor charged me VAT at point of sale. UK Border Force then levied VAT on it again. Now I am a cycle where Border Force say the vendor should refund me the VAT because it should have been zero rated in Germany. German company is telling me they can't refund me because it was German VAT that they applied. I argued that they didn't because VAT rate in Germany is 19% and they levied a 20% VAT which is equivalent to UK rate. Also that it was an export so should have been zero rated anyway.

Going to have to go through PayPal dispute now to get the VAT back then go back to Border Force for a partial refund on their VAT because it was calculated on the total invoice value which included VAT already.

Fucking nightmare. I hate Brexit cunts for causing this shite.

My take from this is that I'm not the only one with multiple pairs of gloves.

Potholes! The strings of deep potholes on the A1(M) near Stevenage haven’t been repaired yet. That road would presumably be the first priority, meaning no potholes have been repaired anywhere round here.

Schiphol

Its certainly easy to get to and from the centre of town.
Airport to Wasted Wasted Wasted as Fuck Wasted Wasted in less than half an hour, works for me Thumbs Up Sadly, its the first airport in many years where I have had lengthy flight delays and so it left a bad taste on my first visit to Amsterdam.

Having said that, I've had too many unpleasant airport experiences to decide which one was worst Laughing I *HATE* having to run for the gate. But then its usually 3am and I'm somewhere in the arse end of nowhere on the way to Auckland/Sydney, so being awake and grouchy doesnt really help.

For the most part though, I've learnt to make my airport meanderings reasonably painless. Longhaul helps clarify the mind about the sort of crap you want to eat, drink or buy before you get on a flight.

Note to self: do not allow the sunglasses habit to proliferate. I've started substituting exotic fragrances (you can't get the ones I want) for fancy shades lately, and its likely to cost me a fortune if I don't knock it on the head Laughing

Today (and yesterday) my gears have mostly been ground by MS Teams.
I can't work out how the fuck to make it look sensible on the screen Puke
I was tweaking the view so much today that at one point I had them all in some rather comical cartoon version of Celebrity Squares, wtf.

It's not just a matter of plug in the HDMI cable and off you go BUT IT SHOULD BE Brick Wall

Yesterday I was at one hospital, today I was at another (my usual stamping ground), but the screen set-up was different in both, and having had my laptop tweaked yesterday by a nice IT man I forgot that I needed to retweak it back to my original settings myself today (my IT guys run a mile when they see me, I can feel their eyes rolling back in their sockets ...)

If I am just a punter in the meeting, click the link and turn up in the meeting, turn off my camera and mic and have a snooze while someone else waffles on ... but when I'm the mug running the fucking meeting and taking the minutes, it always gets cocked up.

I don't know how The Mgmt put up with me.
(probably cos nobody else wants the job, so they are stuck with me - thank fuck they know what they are doing Laughing )

They’ll wait until I’ve somehow memorised each individual pothole, then one day in high summer when I should be using maximum lean they’ll scatter tar and loose chippings across the road, once again ruining the fun.

'We'?

I sincerely hope that you do not use that term as in, 'royal we', aka you, your own self?

I don't believe you are the spokesperson for the BCF massive.

In that light, STFU. (With all due respect.)

I'm not sure there is an agreed collective term for potholes.

Moving on, I think this is something our local Cooncil could have someone work on.

Perhaps the Wheelie Bin Rota Think-Tank have some spare time in the working week.

Does it give you a feeling of smug superiority over other road users?

Have you considered buying a turtle-neck sweater yet?

There's large sections of that where you have to swerve like a drunk, the lower Luton Road is no better ... in fact most of the roads around here are like that.

Even the Codicotte Road is a challenge if you want to make smooth progress.

Same as the back road from Old Welwyn up to Lemsford - it's not your average potholes either, it's full delamination of the surface layers right down to and through the substrate.

Glue and chippings is not going to fix it Twisted Evil

To quote MCN ...

These are presumably the same "Khunts" who decide that manhole covers belong on the apex of a corner, preferably on the blind part of it.

Those bloody glue and chippings are a nuisance - especially when they don't hoover up the excess and you wind up with two ruddy great lines of raised piles of it for 2 miles. Crossing it to make a turn is a proper russian roulette job.

A few years back they scattered loose chippings over the steep descent from Hare Street into Buntingford. Getting a bike down there safely was tricky. Once was enough, I just avoided it thereafter.

On the A1 a lot of them are on the centreline where I'd be filtering. Had a couple of nasty moments squeezing through narrow gaps in queuing traffic when the wheel dropped into what was effectively a trench.

Fucking council tax that's what. It's absolute bastard daylight robbery, ultimately imprisonable if you don't comply.
My bins are collected once a fortnight, that's pretty much all I get out of the deal. I've done some sums and it's costing
me about £70 a time for them to remove a single bag of rubbish each fortnight. In what universe is that okay? Turn
the street lights off, I don't care all my vehicles have lights. I don't have kids so why am I paying for schools? If I called
the Police for anything they likely wouldn't attend and my house insurance covers the cost of the bastard burning
down. I was never asked if my money should be spent on 'clean air™' cameras because if I had been I'd have said "Fuck
no"!! They've made my van worth fuck all at the stroke of a pen and I get billed for the privilege? And of course this year
it's gone up considerably because I don't cunting know why except to fund more ways of bleeding the £££s out of my wallet.
Its a fucking piss take. The chief housing officer on BCC is on 280k a year. So I can see where some of it is going.

Well, it gives whinging about them more legitimacy if you actively participated in the election process. Imagine if all the people who thought what you do actually turned out?

41% turnout for Bristol council elections in 2021.

It's all relative.

Salisbury City Council has just increased their share of Council tax by 44%. There is no overall control but more Conservative members than any other party.
