My mate is on the look-out for cheap 400, so I cast an eye out and came across some Chinese - I was staggered by the drop in value of these bikes, many not even run-in, here a couple..

Mash TT400 £4300 new and yet

£2400 with 150 miles on it..

About 10 years ago, I bought a second hand Jianshe AJS 125.

It was immaculate, less than 2 years old, under 200 km on the clock - a bloke had been parking it in his campervan and using it as a runabout when he was on hols.

I think the list price was about £1200 +OTR and I paid around half that.


I've still got it!
30000+ km later, and it's not immaculate anymore - but passable. Wife and daughter still use it occasionally.

Probably worth about £25 now

I was tempted by the Mash when it came out. Problem was, it just cost too much. I think it was listing at around £5k initially, and not much stock around so few discounts.

At the same time there was a bit of glut, at least in that vague sector. I bought my Guzzi a year later, brand new for about £6500.

So for 30% more I could buy something in the same styling ballpark, but better in every measurable way. Most importantly when buying a new bike with a warranty, there was an existing dealer network to service it and make the warranty worth having.

The mash 400 should have listed at £3500.

Friend had a Mash X Ride 650. But in the end took it back because of various issues, including fuel level sender set to low (rectified himself) but the main reason was check engine light was coming on more times than not. No amount of electric boxes or sensors exchanged at the dealer fixed the issue so he swapped it for a Suzuki SV650.

There was someone on here who used to swear by them and call all us Chinese haters phillistines.He had a Mash 400 that he lauded to anyone who would listen.

That 400 is a pretty bike. If I wanted a starter bike to really pretty up and use for Sunday rides to the caff, that would be a good start at that price. New money for one?

I find that MASH completely unappealing and would take the WK
if forced to buy one or the other

I'm probably the only one here who would prefer the WK Trail over the Mash. That doesn't mean I'd trust it though. On paper it's definitely what I want from an enduro bike. I don't put faith in paper.
