Which 125 would be the best one for me? I'm a 16 year old girl, and I want a bike that "suits" me, if you follow me. I've considered these bikes:

Gilera DNA 125
Honda Varadero
Derbi GPR
Daelim Roadwin (my dad's into 4 strokes..)

... and some other bikes. But like most girls in my age, I don't have too much knowledge about mc's..:S And I can't decide which one I want!! So please, a little help and your opinions would do..

I can highly recommend the Yamaha SR125. The seat is nice 'n' low and it's as light as a feather, that's why most bike schools use them.

And *ahem* I just so happen to have one for sale in the exchange and mart forum, and it's very reasonably priced!

(Hey, it's gotta be worth a try! Razz )

they will all suit you, a bikes a bike

theres only a few differences i can sort out

2stroke

Sports
Arrow Harder riding position, looks, speed 110mph, Fairings can be pricey to fix can be unreliable (aprilia RS125, Honda nsr, Caviga Mito, Derbi Gpr?? not sure)
Trail / Smoto
Arrow Upright, easy to ride probably, slower, poss unreiable??, not much if you drop it

4 stroke
Sport Rolling Eyes
Arrow CBR only i think, weedy looks, pricey, 70mph max?
Trail / Smoto
Arrow Should be reliable, slow, cheap if dropped
Commuters
Arrow Cheap to run, cheap to drop, not very stylish, cheap as to buy i think

id consider doing your test though

much better idea IMO

Thank you for helping me:)

I've tried the CBR and it's to small for me, and I think it's too small overall anyway:P

And to you, DanceLikeAMonkey, I live in Norway, so buying a bike from you would maybe be a bit complicated:P And I want to buy a new one, not that there's anything wrong with second hands..

The NSR looks a bit too racing, but I'd bet it's a nice bike..

If I buy a Derbi GPR, what do you think I'd get for it in a year or two?

The NSR is actually quite a relaxed position comapared to some of the sportier 125s.

Ive had a DNA 125 there not bad, 75ish top end very easy to ride. At the moment i have a varadero 125 its great 70 top end but nice to ride and you can take your test on it, very reliable aswell.

Yup, I'd recommend the varadero, only on the fact that I've been told its a great 125. Thumbs Up Quicker than an sr125 with wind protection too. Of course, it depends if you can get on the thing or not - they're quite tall.

Can I ask one question though - how much is a brand new honda varadero 125 over there?

I sat on a GPR125 a while back and found it horrible to be on. Very hard seat/rear shock and a more sporty riding position than my old RS125. They're stupidly expensive to buy brand new and new 125's lose quite a lot of value. Most of the time from being dropped or treated badly.

All the 2 stroke sport bikes will be reliable if they are treated well & serviced at the correct intervals.

The Varadero is a very smart machine. Comfortable with decent power for a 125 four stroke. Only problem, they are pretty tall machines so it could be a struggle if you arent that tall.

A new Varadera costs about 60 000 kroner (NOK).. You can check out what that is in £ yourself.. I don't know:P

And another thing is that the Varadero don't sink that much in value.. And that's a point.

I forgot to say one thing, and that's that the Varadero isn't a very "girlie" bike. A good one, yes, but even if I'm tall enough (who I am), it's a very big bike! Neutral

And you have seriuosly made me me look at the NSR.. not bad, not bad at all... Is it very big? As big as the Varadero? Or a bit smaller..?

What do you mean by "girlie"? I guess this comes from worrying about the weight of the bike. All of the 125's are of a similar size and weight, you just need to find the one that you are most comfortable on. How tall are you? The NSR has a low seat and a less sporty position than say a RS125 or Mito, so that might be the one to go for if you are worried about being able to handle the bike. Oh and there are lots of females on here who have 600cc sports bikes (among others) which are bigger and heavier than all the 125's, so because you are a girl this shouldn't narrow down your choice of bikes Mr. Green unless you insist on having a pink one Wink

Mr Jamez is right. The best thing to do is to go and have a sit on the bikes and see which one feels the best for you.

The NSR is a nice ride and it has a comfortable seat. I believe the seat height of the NSR is a little bit shorter than the RS, but they are basically the same in size.

60,000 NOK is £5,027 - the Varadero is £3,299 (39,371 NOK) here. Might be worth popping over and selling one Smile

I have actually thought of having a pink one...Razz But the problems begins when I want to sell it.. Very Happy Confused

I know that girlie is a bad word. What I mean is something that is not too big, not too wholesome, if you follow me. A bike that is elegant and tough at the same time.. (like a Honda NSR?Wink) I know I'm picky, but I can't help it:P When I spend so much of my money on it,it's got to be perfect:D

If you're after something along the red/pink side, how about..

https://goldwing.bikepics.net/aprilia-rs125-00-bikepics-155155.jpg

My old RS the day I bought it last summer. Was a gorgeous bike. Of course they arent to everyones taste, but I've had 2 strokes most of my life, you get attached to them! Laughing

NSR's are indeed nice machines. They arent too big or too small, slightly more user friendly than the RS/Mito due to being slightly down on power. Theres also the "Honda reliability." Not been in production for the last 2 years due to being replaced by the CBR125, but theres still a lot kicking about at decent prices.

Am I missing something here!?
Since when has a 16yr old been able to ride a 125cc?
I've only been able to get a 125 in the last 6 months as at 16 you can only ride a 50cc which does no more than 30mph.
So I would consider getting a 50 like a Gilera DNA50, RS50 or a GPR50 (The new one looks the bees knees).

Hi annema

I know what you are trying to say about wanting a girlie bike. I have an NSR and was debating all sorts of bikes before I bought it. Go out and sit on a few to get a feel for them. The perfect looking bike can feel horrible when you actually sit on it!!

Also, how tall are you?

NSR's tend to keep their value well, so I've been told. They are also very nice to ride, and really not too racey.

If you click on the link in my signature there is a picture of me on my NSR...I think (must check if it's on there)

am only 5 5 and i manage on the varadero - it seemed massive at first compared to the dna, but you get used to that and when your moving it doesnt feel that big. Also a nice bit of room to fit a top box.

The cbr 125 felt far to small for me, I like the rs but i dont find it nice to ride to much of a stretch over the tank for me.

A Suzuki RV125 Van Van Laughing

Or as somebody else said, I'm sure a SR125 would be a nice bike for a young lady. Slow which is ideal for women drivers Wink

You should see my mate then. He also jas a CBR125. He's about 6'1 and fat, about 14 stone, and he looks a right tw*t on it. I don't know how he can ride around on the CBR, and I don't know how the skinny tyres support his weight.

If u want red - Honda XR125 - i'm biased cos i have one, but it's ideal for the wintry conditions that you have in Norway and since you have pretty much a blanket 50mph speed limit, it's ideal - the bike will maintain 65mph or 80 on the speedo down a big hill on a motorway. Cheap to run and simple engine.

It's got chunky tyres and a nice trail style riding position. Easy controls and you can flick the bike from side to side and maybe get a knee down if you're committed. It'll look a girl look tough! Very Happy

I would look at the Supermoto side of things. Sportsbike power with out the riding position and added weight of bodywork/fairings. Plus, you can change it for what you like depending on the conditions in Norway.
