Let's face it: mechanical watches are nothing about telling the time anymore, probably why I like the skeletal style. That and they can look interesting without screaming a particular brand
<edit> I looked on the back and it's "Jaragar" so just a cheap Chinese watch (although it doesn't look like they've made my one for a while.) ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

I agree on the point about mechanical watches not just being about telling the time. Everyone has a mobile phone in their pocket which is accurate +/- 0.00000003 seconds on the data it uses (but +/- 30 seconds on resolution). The best a mechanical watch can do is +/- 0.3 seconds on the movement (but +/- 0.5 seconds on resolution) and that comes nowhere close to the accuracy of quartz watches which can be +/- 0.03 seconds on data (resolution will change depending on the dial if it's a seconds hand then resolution is +/- 0.5 seconds but if it's a digital watch showing tenths of a second the resolution increases to +/- 0.05 seconds). So if you wanted an extraordinary accurate watch a £20 digital one from Argos would do.
In measurement uncertainty the uncertainty due to resolution is plus or minus half of the smallest readout possible so:
A digital clock that only shows minutes and hours has a resolution of +/- 30 seconds (as the smallest unit readout is in minutes).
A watch that shows seconds has a resolution of +/- 0.5 seconds (as the smallest unit readout is in seconds).
My list of watches that I want to collect (in order of how much I love the watch):
Patek Philippe Calatrava (6119R-001) - approx. £26,000.00,
Rolex Oyster Perpetual (M124300-0001) - approx. £5,400.00,
Breitling B01 Chronograph 46 (AB013724ILIAI) - approx. £7,600.00,
Chopard Mille Miglia Chrono Limited Edition (I 68571-3009) - approx. £7,400.00,
NOMOS Glasshutte Tangente 38mm - Midnight Blue (15952) - approx. £2,000.00,
Vacheron Constantin Patrimony 81 (81180/000R-9159) - approx. £19,400.00,
Zenith Chronomaster Sport El Primero 3600 41mm (03.3100.3600/69.M3100) - approx. £9,700.00.
My "holy-grail" (watch I would LOVE to own but will never afford it) would be:
Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Tourbillon (6000T/000R-B346) - approx. £124,000.00.
EDIT:
Here is the watches I own so-far (or have pre-ordered):
Orient World Map Revival (RA-AA0E01S) - Approx. £440.00,
Orient Bambino 38mm (RA-AC0M04Y) - Approx. £280.00,
Breitling Navitimer Automatic 41 (M119319) - Approx. £4,000.00,
Christopher Ward C65 Dune Automatic (C65-38ADA3-S00E0-VC) - Approx. £760.00. ____________________ PRESENT: 2018 BMW S1000XR SE Sport.

I recall a card for Breitling watches in a jeweller's window: "They also tell the time!" ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

I wouldn't say it's chicken feed but it's definitely in the realms of what a large percentage of the country could reasonably afford if they wanted it enough. Or spend the money on something else that you can't buy on interest free credit. I think along the lines of money sitting around doing nothing is a waste. Interest is good, something to make your life better... even better! A watch could do that if you move in the right circles. Up there with hand made suits, decent cufflinks, a properly done up neck tie, etc. ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |
