Picnic at Hanging Rock

Strange, atmospheric, haunting and charged with some strange energy. Seems like an innocuous little mystery about some girls from a posh boarding school who go missing along with a teacher while on a picnic. Rather than develop into a who/what done it the film just builds intensity around the effect of the mystery on those caught in its power. I saw it originally forty years ago and couldn't really appreciate it but saw it tonight on the Talking pictures channel. It really is worth watching and I wish id re watched it sooner.

Going to watch Midnight Cowboy this week as well as ive discovered it's on Freevee.

The Laundromat (on Netflix) - 7/10

A short summary of how money laundering works/ed in the Panama papers case. It's a comedy film with alright performances of both Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas.

Georgetown, another Christoph Waltz vehicle for being quirkishly Germanic.

I'm very fond of him, but this one annoyed me, it seemed disbelievable right from the start, no subtlety.

I liked him in The Consultant. He's great at playing enigmatic arseholes.

No doubt a good film, but I really wasn't prepared for how long it was! I was going to read the book, and i'm still tempted but seeing as Sagan had quite a lot of input for the film I don't know if what's missing is worth fretting about??

Reckon I need to re-think this John Wick malarkey

Been ignoring it for ages, assuming it to be either more of that Matrixy stuff that I never really got into, or else one of those spy movies with double and triple agents and you lose the plot, forget who the Bad Guy is.

I was encouraged to watch the first one but I think I got sidetracked so might have to go back to the start.

Lincoln Lawyer.

Read the book after picking it up in the centre isle of aldi for £1 or something stupid a year or two back, finally found the film in the charity shop (my oft searched places to find films not currently available/will never be available on streaming services).

Good film. Really enjoyed it, and for once a very good likeness of a book.

my wench has read the Lincoln Lawyer books too. i think they link up with the Bosch series of books at some point, the characters related or something?
the Bosch tv show is definitely worth a watch too.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning part 1

Good action scenes. Better than any Marvel BS and I trust Tom Cruise to create a decent film suitable for cinema viewing more than almost anyone else.

It is a MI film though so don't focus too much on the storyline and/or logic.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Pt1 - 7/10

Almost had the cinema to ourselves. Sat right at the back slap bang in the middle.

A spectacle, the train scene was top notch.
I liked The Entity. Came across as a good egg.

Oxygen - 7/10. Maybe higher if you like your slow paced single-set sci-fi. Been done before though - a common criticism nowadays.

What Happened to Monday - 7/10. Dystopian, overpopulation movie. Good watch if a bit predictable. Held together by Noomi Rapace.
