Last night after work I decided to take a trip down the nearby road, otherwise known as the a24, in order to test the 'Speed Booster' device I fitted on Sunday. Everything went smoothly, cracked an easy 60mph completely flat out in 1st. Satisfied I did a loop back via the roundabout and cracked it again on the way home.

Feeling peckish as It was 9pm and I hadn't eaten since lunchtime I stopped at the chip shop by my house. It was then I noticed my whole left hand side fairing had ripped off. The mounting points were still intact with small pieces of fairing still attached to them Confused

I called up a mate who gave me a lift back to the road, eventually found the fairing over an hour later on a verge. The top piece was still usable Thumbs Up , larger bottom section was in several pieces though. Sad

Check this thread out for online shops to buy replacement fairings from retailers and there's also a breakers called Cheshire Motorcycles that have a wide selection of used ones stripped from bikes.

Yeah, I found it on the section of road I was flat out on. I guess the wind must have got underneath it. (One of the brackets was broken in January on track)

That used to be one of my worries when I had the NC30 as the two lower mounts on the lower fairings were missing when we bought the bike. All the fairings seem pretty solid without the mounts but hearing this has made me think that perhaps its about time I started a hunt to find somewhere that has some mounts that I could buy.

Are you going to replace the panel or try a repair?

Me too!

I was going down the A5/M54 last night balls out in top gear (speedo was reading 95mph Laughing )

Before my fairings didnt fit the best, though they stayed intact. then one day when i gave it som stick on my way back from work The right inspection panel came away from the top fairing. The wind trying to bend it back nearly snapping it.

I found that firmly attaching everything to the V-Piece stops this from happening.

fibreglass is good for repearing anything plastic. Fiberglassing nuts onto things to allow you to shove a bolt through is also a handy way to fix things.

Now all you need is the HRC ignition box to give you better mid range power Wink

I don't think there's much hope for the lower panel, that's going to need replacing. The upper panel looks salvageable though.

HRC ignition box?

I thought that was the thing you stick on the speedo.
Where do you get the HRC thing from then??

The CDI is under the seat at the very back. Mine has another box plugged in there with "NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE" written on it Laughing

From what i hear it just adjusts the timeing to give better mid range power.

Does your speedo work properly? mine rears 100ish when i'm actually doing that, but then continues to read that when i'm going alot faster than that!

I'm thinking about getting one of those mechanical speedo convertors. I'm not a fan of the stickers on the speedo.

I used one of the devices that plugs into the connector that goes into the speedo. Hardest part was disconnecting a stubborn connector with my fingertips!

Sounds like your speedo isn't working properly Martin.

The acceleration is mad.

Yeah, the sound the engine makes with a race can and filter at that speed is awesome. It sounds like it's begging for more.

Needed to PM you because im looking to do a few mod's to the bike.
I have the de-restricting box, i will look for the ignition box (do you know where to look).
You say you have race can and filter, do you mean you have a K&N in which case did you get the thing jetted?

Cheers

Mike

On an undamaged fairing crash bungs act as an additional bracket, shame mine had already snapped off that piece at Brands.

I've got a Pipercross filter. I didn't bother rejetting it as it's not supposed to flow much better than the Honda filter. The advantages are... it's cleanable, cheap and you get much more induction noise.

I'm not convinced the HRC box gives more mid-range, most people on 400greybike reckon it's balls and that it's just an expensive de-restricter. (Always cool to have a HRC part on your bike tho)

I use cloth tape on the fairing parts which are broken/don't fit well.
