Well, maybe not “knackered”, I’m not saying it was a hard-tail nor a pogo stick, so let’s say what if it were sub-optimal and in need of a refresh. Would chain slap at low speeds be a sign?

i put 4 new indicators on...the ones that do the audi/night rider thing. Because when I sell the bike to some 16yo or whatever, theyll think its well cool.

also, the old ones were crap and one had a broken stem. And if mr ebay man wants to sell me a set of 4 new ones for £7 delivered I'm not one to argue.

Wheel alignment good but the front sprocket is starting to ‘hook’. I’m now pretty sure the R1 needs new chain and sprockets to stop the low-speed chain judder (and my installation of the new clutch plates isn’t at fault) but it’s useable in the meantime.

The ZX6R was MOT’d today. First time in a few years that I’ve had both bikes on the road.
Very Happy

You mean the factory standard option on several US vehicles since the 60's? Laughing Funny how things come around.

Went over to a rally in Beaconsfield on Saturday, mostly beardy Harley people but it was a pleasant enough couple of hours.

My ex just got his ("new") Intruder 1400 which had been being tweaked in the garage, so he finally got his hands on it and was eager to go for zoomies.

So I picked him up from Shepherds Bush and we played tag up the A40/M40, just far enough to give both bikes a long-deserved test run.

Only stayed at the rally for a couple of hours, not many bikes there so we had a burger (excellent) and a coffee, he looked round the stalls and then we came home again - I stopped at the Ace on the way home back round the North Circ, it was American Car evening but there was only three or four cars, what a shame. I like a nice frigate-sized American car now and then.

Oh yeah, and he tweaked the petrol tap which was jammed on.
Bit of WD40 and a pliers.
We couldnt quite read what was on the right side of the tap, it looked like PFL or something, not sure what that meant, but as long as I know where ON and RESERVE are, then that should be okay Laughing

Reckoned he couldnt smell petrol, but we'll see ... its due an MOT in a few weeks so I will put it in for a service and an MOT and see what they say. Cool Thumbs Up

PFL would be PRI, for prime. You use it to bypass the vacuum shut-off function of the tap should you happen to run the carbs out of fuel. When in the ON and RES positions the fuel will not flow unless the engine is running, but if you've run out of fuel then the engine will not run without the fuel flowing, hence the need to PRIME the carbs.

Don't leave it in that position though as if there's a float needle leak it'll drain the tank into the sump.

Solves that mystery.
I was just about to try and find my Haynes manual which I know I saved online (somewhere).

Cool Thumbs Up

rebuilt the clutch master cylinder after finally getting the damn circlip out.
soaking the slave cylinder in white vinegar to remove some light corrosion before rebuilding.

I got quite a bit of reassembly done - my imploded engine is getting renewed apace. Don't know what got into me, but I was into it like a machine, and a lot got done compared with what I normally give myself to do (probably because I've run through every little step in my head over the past few weeks) Gears back in, new engine seals all round, oil pump in, all shell bearings in, new pistons in conrods, new cam chain and front cam chain guide, balancer system installed, bottom and top crankcase halves joined with Threebond, everything torqued up.

To go on: cylinders, cylinder head, cam and cam cover, clutch, gear shifter mechanism, alternator, rear-facing cam chain tensioner, ATU, primary chain and sprocket, final drive sprocket, engine side covers. Not going to rush it.

Titted about with the carbs on the FZ recently, in attempt to cure 5k flat spot..

cleaned bowls/jets, lowered needles one notch, balanced, fitted new copper washers, and nice allen button heads to the intake balance 'ports'. set all idle mix screws to 2.5 turns..

.. a brief ride yesterday suggests noticeable improvement.. a longer run needed though to be sure.

Haven't done sod all to the bike but have spent the last 2 entire days cleaning the car.

Prewash.
Snow foam.
Hand wash.
Clay bar.
Hand wash.
Autoglym Super Resin Polish.
Poorboys Black Hole show glaze.
Poorboys Natty Past wax.
Snowfoam.
Towel dry.
Interior clean. Vaccum, door shuts, glass, dashboard and door cards wiped down.

I'm absolutely knackered but the car looks clean as F.

Finishing touch on the alarm/keyless-start system on the old fella's KZ1000. The cheap Chinesium unit had this start switch:

https://i.imgur.com/UHwcKDK.jpg

Seriously?! It is from a car (just with a stupid handlebar bracket added) so in the bin, literally.

And replaced with this:

https://i.imgur.com/SSdBX3W.jpg

We could have rewired the original start button but we wanted the bike and its electrics untouched and original.

Fitted a dash(rider?) cam system, then popped off to the tea hut at Epping to get some footage in the thing.

All good, not go pro quality but will do the job if required I'm sure and saves me faffing about with batteries and switching the thing on/off all the time.

Got RAC-rescued at 2 am with the GSX, got home, then rang the garage this morning and got them to come and collect it Rolling Eyes

The RAC guy thinks its the alternator ... but I will wait till the chaps at the garage get back to me for certain.

Needs an MOT and a service anyway. Laughing

Avid readers may recall mention the next door neighbour's kid's R125 well the old fella's taken it on as a project and we've got as far as taking the engine out...

Jeez Louise, it's a lot of working stripping down a modern EFI bike. All the fasteners were either barely hand tight or welded in place by corrosion. Sheared off a few rad mount bolts - easy to drill out and replace - but the worst was the bottom engine mount bolt. We tried the usual heat + hammer the ever-living crap out of it but it wouldn't budge. We gave up and cut the ends of the bolt off Sad

The plan is to take the top end apart for scrutiny (it has near zero compression.) Hmm... while disassembling the bike we noticed a lovely high flow K&N air filter and a straight-thru exhaust Thinking I doubt it's ever been retuned so I'm guessing hole in piston.

An engine rebuild if it's practical or a second-hand replacement otherwise. After that I'd say stock air filter + stock exhaust otherwise it'll just blow itself up again.
