The forthcoming ban on XL bullys.

A straw poll of the 14 vets in my practice shows 100% of them think this is a good idea. With the caveat that there is still plenty of scope for the government to fuck it up in the execution.

My brother banned them from his practice over a year ago anyway..

So what's your view on this meme (below) that's doing the rounds? I've had German Shepherds all my life and they are the daftest dogs unless it's trained out of them. Do you reckon those XL bullies are actually born vicious or is it the owners?

Apparently over 50% cnb trace their Lineage to a dog named 'Killer kimbo' and are heavily interbred to enhance their traits whic, unfortunately, includes aggression.

If you had a car that was responsible for 43% of the KSI accidents in a 12 month period, you can garauntee that model would be banned and recalled. Arguments over whether it was because people didn't know how to drive it properly wouldn't really come into it.

So as it goes, I don't really care if it's the dog itself or the kind of person who buys the dog. We can't ban idiots but we can stop them owning the dog.

FTFY Sad

People own all sorts of dogs that are inherently aggressive/stupid. Maybe a burning pile of savaged dead sheep and lambs outside Westminster might get the point across.

But most of them don't kill people. XL bullys and pitbulls do.

I don't have a problem with the ban as part of the solution, but if they don't go after the bad breeders, they will just create a different problem.

Also, we have to see how they classify the "XL Bully" as there are many bully types out there. I have a Victorian Bulldog that has no blood relation to any of the dog breeds that have been banned or make up the XL bully, but she is classified as a bully breed none the less. Even if she is not included in the ban, I know for sure I will have to deal with Karen's from time to time.

Presumably if you value sheep over people you have converted to cannibalism?

Interestingly, the breeders of these things made a submission to the UK government as to why they aren't pitbulls and detailing in-depth what constitutes an XL bully and what makes it different to a pitbull. Last proposal I heard was to pretty much use this.

The other thing is that these bullys are almost a de-facto tradeable currency among drug dealers. That's who is breeding the things.

They are also having their ears cropped (the one in the picture above has cropped ears) and lying about how this came about. It's long been illegal to crop dogs ears in the UK but they pull out the "it was like that when I got it" line. I actually record that bully and French bulldog pups have anatomically normal ears when I see them now so we have a chain of evidence if they turn up later with them cropped and still in the same persons posession.

Back in the day the Dangerous Dogs Act was used in law school as the textbook example of legislation gone badly wrong (many more examples since, of course!).

The issue: good luck defining "XL Bully" (or any breed) such that average PC Plod can reliably figure it out on da street.

"Please don't take my Fluffy she's not an XL bully" "OH YES SHE IS"

You say that but how many Pitbulls, Japanese Tosas, Dogo Argentinios and Fila Brasilerios do you see now?

They probably won't take them off people. I suspect they'll have to be registered, neutered and kept muzzled while in public and it'll be an offence to sell or breed one. They'll only be taken if you don't do this. They don't live that long anyway so they will disappear fairly quickly.

Genetic testing is a lot cheaper and more sophisticated than it was 20 years ago too. People have their mongrel dogs breed genetics analysed for fun these days.

These dog issues that we are having does make an argument for all dogs to be registered and a reintroduction of a " Dog Licence" for a dogs. Insurance, proof of ownership etc.

My little Jack Russell is as soft as soft can be when it's just me and him, when other people are around he turns into a Russell Brand and tries humping everyone, around some dogs he shows his teeth, with others he just wants to play. Around rats he is a killer, a natural born killer and very good at it.

I sort of agree. I would be quite happy with compusory insurance, micro chipping, registration, dog license etc. but unless there is actual policing of it the only people who would get all that done are the law abiding public. Dennis the drug dealer won't bother will he.

Bit like electric scooters, how many ever get stopped for blatent law breaking.

My gears are thouroughly oiled today by finding out the existance of this:
https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-13a-1g-to-2g-switched-converter-socket-white/108cc

Meaning that to change that single socket in the spare room over to a double will no longer require me to smash the old pattress out and deal witth brickwork, fitting a new 2g pattress and redecorating the inevitable mess I cause to the paintwork. Now All I have to do is swap the faceplate.

Although the amount of gear oiling this has given me is a bittersweet reminder of my inevitable aging Laughing

Only this morning I was at my sisters house and saw all her single sockets with numerous jacks in them for numerous plugs and thought that she could do with a few double sockets.
