Mileage

Just looking on another forum (BMW) and I'm amazed how low some of the mileage is on their bikes. Bare in mind these are big GS Adventure bikes many/most have VERY low mileage on them. I've had my bike from new from mid June so just about three months and I've done 3900 miles. I haven't toured yet, just had the odd day out, but many bikes are 3,4,5 years old and just about done 6k miles. What do they do with these bikes? Just sit in the garage and polish them? They all have great tales of adventures, but you do wonder if it's actually true. I very rarely see a 5 year old bike with more than 10k miles on them.

What sort of mileage do the rest of you do?

I read somewhere average mileage is about 3k. I do about 10k a year but it's spread over 3 bikes.

I only average about 2-3k a year, but then again, i don't own a touring bike, or have any real interest in touring

My longest single ride this year was probably about 75 miles, and my (dry weather only) commute is only 3 miles

The majority of my rides are a Saturday morning blast into the Peak Disctrict for a couple of hours, and the odd bike meet/ride out on a evening

When I worked from the office moons ago it was 12k across 2 bikes.

Now more like 8-10k

No car so it's probably half errands and half fun.

When I bought my bike it had averaged 2k a year, it was pristine other than the tyres being old and hard.

I do something like 8k a year by bike but that's spread across my 3 working bikes. The GSXR is only occasional and a trackday but the 8k is generally split between my GSX-S and my Street Triple.

My MT09 did just over 3k in 6 years of ownership although admittedly I had 3 years where I couldn't use it because
it was stored somewhere I wasn't able to access it. I've done 1500 or so miles of just local blatting round pubs on the
MT10 since its purchase last November. It's such a nice bike to ride and a real Jekyll and Hyde machine. It's just as
happy on a bimble as it is on a mortality test.

In the end my Goldwing(s) only got used for touring. The only other times they came out of the garage were for MOT's or servicing so if I did a tour of 1500 miles that summer, that would be it for the year.

OK, I had another bike to play on but I can see how those bige GS's only rack up small mileages even if they are used for touring.

I'm currently buying a bike that is 7 years old with just 5600 miles on it. Thats only about 6-9 months commuting for me.

the bike is purely for pleasure and only goes out in good weather.

20 years ago I was commuting in all weathers and doing weekend rides all year, covering more miles on the bike than in the car. Probably 10k to 12k at its height. These days the bike is a toy, I doubt I'd get near 2k miles a year. The car does about 3k. Work is a 6 minute walk away now!

Although, opposite from OP the two things I've noticed after 10yrs off the bike - the price of the. And how many have 20k plus miles on them!!

I'm not in UK for long enough these days to clock up much mileages. Weather dictates that and having nae pals.
Probably sub 3000 per year now.
I used to blow through tyres at two pairs per year. If that's any indication of use.

This is across two bike, but the majority on the CBF1000 mile muncher.

I love that lots of people don't use their bikes. I'm looking for a replacement for the geriatric CBF and there are some great low mileage options.

My mileage is much more erratic these days.

I more than doubled the mileage on the Harley since I bought it (from 13000 to 30000+) but this year I've not ridden it since March

But lately - even though the Suzuki goes like stink, I'm just in a bit of a funk...meh.

My '03 GSX1400 has done over 103k miles, but has been sitting rusting away at the back of the garage for the last seven years.

The engine in my K4 14 just went, so the K3 engine was started after seven years and is now currently accruing more miles in the K4 ... it'll go back into the K3 after it's all been done up.

Most of the miles are probably commuting to/from work, with the rest going on a few long runs and general running about.

I just spotted a bike on Ebay that was bought new in 2014 and has only done just over 300 miles. Obviously bought and just left in the garage.
