Yep, sure you can ride them round all day with minimal gear changes because of the massive power and torque, but when you do brain it you get to brown alert almost immediately.

well I finally have had a chance to get on to a MT07 a few times which I have to say is bloody lovely compared to the 3x 125cc bikes I have had a chance to ride.

Mod 1 in the bag and on to Mod 2 in a couple of weeks!
Now to see what will be my first big bike, middleweight bike or whatever the fuck you call them

Litre sports bikes are meh in my opinion. I've had two Fireblades and an R1 along with VFR1200 and huge heavy Honda Shadow 1100 all because of a small penis.

I genuinely have more fun on light bikes the lighter the better. My 1994 CBR400RR can hit over 120 and get there fast enough for me. It's like a maniac the size of a 125 screaming at 14000 revs right enough.

I also have a Street Triple. I like riding this very much aswell. Would be my bike of choice unless you wanted a fairing.

i loved my zx9r and in retrospect wished i'd not spent as long on a cb500, of which i had two

otoh, putting tens of thousands of miles on the 500s meant that i became good at overtaking. When you only have about 50bhp a lot of your overtakes are going to be almost 'momentum' overtakes, so timing is much more important. By the time I got totally fed up with the 500s I was ragging f*** out of them, everywhere. But it took me a few years to become that aggressive, small penis guy, where every ride was a grudge match. Any 1200GS I saw was a red rag and had to be hunted down. The 500 became a jack russell - small, nasty and totally unaware of its limitations.

So when the zx9r came along it was a bit different. And it took me a couple of years and loads of riding to settle into it. I rode it everywhere, if it wasn't raining. And often if it was. It tried to kill me several times - e.g. once with a collapsed swing arm bearing, and a few times when i'd cocked my DIY suspension settings up and it was 'squatting.' But so what. They are great bikes hence I had two of those as well.

Now I'm the pipe and slippers gimmer on the 1150gs and lads on MT07s hunt me down. Such is the (motor)cycle of life innit m8.

Big bikes are much easier to ride, more planted and stable. If you're scaring yourself you're trying to progress too fast and will likely come unstuck - you'll progress naturally into being able to use all of the power of a big bike. Only way to get that is ride for a few years.

125's are still great fun in their own way. I like riding small bikes occasionally

If you want to ride a big bike go do it, go do your DAS and there you go you'll have a taste of big bikes before you get your license.

I found I enjoyed riding more as the 125 seem to tire me out from the constant wide open throttle it needed to get going and the horrid vibrations at top speed.

My Street triple feels like a 125 on steroids. My 400 feels like a 125, until you reach 11000 revs then it goes hairy.

I've had two Fireblades an R1, two VFR1200's and one Honda Shadow 1100. I've come to the conclusion that small bikes are better fun. Larger bikes are more stable.

I would say get a 600/650/675 for a first bike after a 125 or a 1990's 400. Anything smaller than that does not have enough oomph for safe overtakes in my opinion.
