Right, I got some old fairings off Yams and a few bits off ebay, I'm only short of a front for a full set. Thumbs Up
I started this with the intention of having stunt fairings but If it looks good I might keep them and not destroy them. (On purpose anyways! Wink )

I Have been following popadops' guide from here: https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=34061&highlight=spraying

I Have done the primer and basically decided black with mirrored silver decals to match frame / wheels will be cool.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/photo0659.jpg

I then rigged this frame up to hold fairing whilst I spray it, It's just an old clothes rack. Smile
https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/photo0660.jpg

Now sprayed the fairing. Finish is really good (for what I was expecting) but I also intend to clear coat it. Can't do that for a couple of days though. I will post more pictures as I make more progress. Thumbs Up

Now all you need is a bike that works and a decent quality camera Wink Very Happy

p.s. don't forget to put your stickers on before clear coat..

That guy does mirror decals, just ask him for mirror finish when you buy them.
They look pretty good with a block finish (see VFR pic) though mine could do with clear coating

Yer, gotta order them. I found a website but You have to choose how big you want the stickers. Confused I just want standard "400" stickers for the rear.

Got my tank Yesterday.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/dent.jpg
It came with a nice ball dent. Shocked Laughing

Well as I'm on a budget with these fairings there was no way I was even going to consider getting it repaired professionally.
Filler here we come..... Cool
https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/photo0663.jpg

I put quite a bit to much on but after 2 hours rubbing I finally got it smooth again. Laughing

Fantastic stuff!! looks like im not the only ZXR project person here at the mo Smile

Looks like someone got there nuts into that tank Very Happy did a nice job of it. Though I would have used Epoxy resins to make it stronger. (you can buy the kits cheap) just make sure you give it a few decent strong coats of paint.. that will make it a bit stronger Thumbs Up finish that with a good Motrax tank protector and it should be plenty strong.

Guys, nice work.

Quick Q. When rubbing down before putting the primer on, should you go right down to the plastic / metal?

I've got an old spare fairing I am intending to practice paintin on.

The black finish on the back fairing looks great, esp for a DIY job.

I didn't no, I was told to just roughen up the old paint. I think this is so the paint will stick to it but I primed it anyway. That panel hasn't been clear coated yet. I'm going to clear coat them with normal stuff and use the petrol proof stuff on the tank. Thumbs Up

Does anyone have any experience with petrol proof clear coat? I heard the finish isn't as good or something?

I see a potential problem....
From the look of the pic where you have put the filler in that ball dent it appears from the feather edging that you put the filler over paint...if so, it will fall out.
Filler needs a 36-40 grit *key* to stick (bare metal...always) & never more than 3/16-1/4in thick.. how deep was that dent?

I guess the dent was about 1/2 inch deep. Confused I rubbed the paint down so it was roughed up, thought that was enough. Laughing Tank protector should hold it in. Razz

Im sure it will be fine anyway Thumbs Up

I don't like those stickers, I've found a website one that does the "400" stickers like on mine (they are a pretty font Razz) but they need you to specify the size , I don't know what It is until I can measure mine (sticker!)

The tank cost £10
