Insurance quotes

It's come round to that time of year again, I have my 2 cars and house insurance with 1 company - but they've decided to ramp up my renewal by more than £250. So I've started looking around.

For my 2 cars Moneysupermarket quoted the cheapest being with Hastings under a multicar deal and quoted me around £700. I continued to shop around, then went back to check that again the next day and this time it suddenly comes in at over £800. So I start shopping round some more, and the next day again I think I'll check again with Hasting's and see what happens this time - the quote is now nearly at £900!!

I know the quotes are only valid for 24hrs or something, and the first deal I should have taken - but it just seems ridiculous that they keep putting this up and up. I'm tempted to keep checking every day and see how high they can get it .
Is there any way they can tell I'm shopping round, and so decide to keep putting the price up in the hope I'll make the decision "Quick, I must go with them before it gets any higher"!!

I had this too with moneysupermarket, initially I thought it was because I was in a private window and using it as a new account - as per Martin Lewis advice. This years quote for one car is nearly £900

I got rinsed for an extra £180 last year, I suspect because I left it a little late. This year some quotes lasted 9 hours and some 27 days.

I aso got quoted £700 for a 50cc ped!!!

Hastings are assholes! Having said that, most are when you look at reviews.

They can tell when you've done multiple quotes but I doubt if they would put the price up for it. I did have an insurer once put my policy on hold until I could explain why I'd done a few quotes with different annual mileage.
It might actually be because the start date is getting closer but it's hard to tell. Apparently even the time of day that you do the quote can matter.

Private browsing window, enter model of car/bike manually rather than reg and then there's nothing to link together the quotes. Not much help for a house ofc.

Well I've been doing it through a private browser window but of course they'll tie it together through reg's and email address.

Insurance is just a crazy business, hate them with a passion. I'll try it again without the reg's and a different email address and see what happens, though I'm guessing they can tie it together via the home address too .

I got a significantly increased quote from AA this year, so I called them and spoe to an actual human, in England (or perhaps itr was Wales)
After altering allowable miles I eveantually got a reduction.

web-sites although sometimes unavoidable are a lot of palava..
