Hi can some one help me,i brought a 1995 'm' dt 125r and i have been told the lights are not working properly, the headlights dip and main work when the engine is running as do the side lights, but when you turn the bike off and just have the ignition on they dont,i can make the parking lights work by turning the key anti clockwise to P they work fine, but when you try to turn the lights on without the engine running they dont work.
Are they supposed to work without the engine running? If they are is it a problem that dt's suffer from, i have checked the wiring and there are no obvious signs of corrosion, the battery is fully charged and i am at the end of my tether,,,,, thanks lee

You may have to go wire butchering!

Check the wiring diagram very carefully and try again!

Lights working with engine running but not without is probably cos:

Wiring is connected to the generator, not the battery or something

It's normal you say, I understand, but i dont understand why i was told that they have to work without the engine running, because i cannot make them work unless the engine is running is this going to be an mot failure, i thought that maybe the regulator box or maybe the cdi box needed attention, would that be wrong? only this guy seems adamant that they should work on the ignition.I know they have a small battery, but the battery is as fully charged as it can be, any more help would be gratefully received thanks lee

oh right so it sounds like you have the exact same problem as me,indicators, horn, foot and lever brake lights work as do the neutrol and turn lights on the little dash all work ok,just seems that the side lights and main/dip do not work without the engine running, are there any points i should look for? by the way thanks for your help.
