This isn't a rant about leccy cars or the like, just about polticians and their policies/promises.
We have already had Richie put back the promised banning of fossil fuel vehicles from 2030-2035 and now the SNP/Greens in Scotland are having to review their plans for whatever greenery they had decided when Nicola was in power.
The Scottish government is to ditch its flagship target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 75% by 2030.
We all know politicians lie. We all know they will say whatever they can to pull the wool over the eyes of the gullible plebs who pay for them (and their campervans eh Nicola).
I'm not even that interested in what we are trying to do because if China and India don't come on board our poxy little island isn't going to make the slightest difference but that's another arguement.
A passage in the linked article says With the closure of Scotland's last coal-fired power station at Longannet in 2016, politicians conceded that the low-hanging fruit had all been picked and any future progress would require big changes to how we live our lives and that to me is a fundamental worry. I can't see how they can ban gas boilers and force people to have heat pumps fitted when on top of the cost of heat pumps you have to have your whole hot water and central heating system replaced and they, because of the cost of electric, cost twice as much as a boiler to run.
There's been a meme going round that governments are just using climate change to increase taxes which is probably not far from the mark.
Anyway, Greta wants her picture back as she doesn't like Scotland now it can't fufill it's promises. https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/976/cpsprodpb/1A51/production/_133173760_image.jpg.webp
Don't you just not love politicians.

I think if the regulations around energy efficiency inched forward bit by bit - setting a direction but not necessarily a finish line - a lot more people would get behind the idea.
"We'll reduce CO2 emissions by 75% by 2030!!!" who was that even for?! The Man on the Clapham Blythswood Omnibus couldn't give two shits ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

Heat pumps can be effective and cost little more than gas but only once you've spent shit-loads on insulation etc..
You can get a grant for them but only once your houses EPC is good enough whihc excludes most of us I would think.
My 70 yr old 3 bed semi has solid 9" wall and would require external wall insulation and all teh suspended floors up to insulate beneath, then due to resultant condensation issues it would probably need some foced air ventilation.. alll cosing ££s. ain't gonna happen witout extraordinary input from HMG. ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750

Local council was soon to call for a climate emergency...
They recently turned down a development that would install 8 or so electric chargers and energy efficient housing on some brown field site which currently has an old asbestos ridden mill building on it, saying it wouldn't be in with the character of the area ____________________ '00 Aprilia RS50 > '92 Honda CG > '99 Yamaha Fazer > '91 Yamaha RXS > '79 Suzuki X5 > 01' Honda Cg > 07' Honda Cg > 82' Kawasaki Z200 > suzuki gsxr 400 gk73a > honda vfr 400 NC30> Yamaha RD350 YPVS F2 > Kawasaki ZZR 600 D1 > Yamaha TZR 250 2MA >Suzuki TL1000R > Yamaha TDR250 > Honda 929 blade > Suzuki SV1000 > Honda H100

As someone who works in that field (excuse the pun...), I would hazard a guess that the applicant will appeal and may well get an award of costs as a result, unless that is the site is next to something of real significance...
Re. the contaminant - not necessarily something to prevent the development. It all comes down to the price of the land and whether that price takes account of it, plus time. If the cost of removing the contaminant is, say, £1,000,000, then a canny developer is likely pay £1,000,000 less for the land (plus a bit more knocked off the the 'doubt' and hassle...), then mothball the land until a change in Government policy produces a scheme that gives grant aid to developers to make it as cost effective to develop a brownfield site as a green field one, like we had decades ago with the Derelict Land Grant. ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M

I meant back in time when this Bute House deal was first mooted. Certainly now's not the time for a snap election.
The assumption is that all SNP MSPs will back Useless and all opposition (Labour, Tories, Libs, Greens) will vote no confidence. That gives Ash Regan (Alba's sole MSP) the trump card and apparently she's writing up a list of demands for Useless to consider ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

It's a pity he's gone. He was the worst leader the SNP could have chosen and therefore the best leader to nullify the party. They are bound to get someone better.
I suspect Useless will be able to add 'Leader of the SNP-White' to his anti honkey speech very soon. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |
