Got a bike on order from BMW.

Paid £1,000 deposit.

Estimated delivery date on the order form is 30th April 2024.

Last time I went in to pester them (a week or two ago) was told it'll hit the production line today (21st May 2024) and "should be delivered middle of June". Funny (not!) because this time last month they were telling me it "should be delivered middle of May".

Terms and conditions state:

Quote:
If the Seller shall fail to deliver the goods within 28 of the estimated date of delivery stated in this contract the Purchaser may, by notice of writing to the Seller, require delivery of the goods within 7 days of receipt of such notice. If the goods shall not be delivered to the Purchaser within the said 7 days the contract shall be cancelled.

I don't really want to cancel my order because I REALLY want the bike!

But I'm getting seriously cheesed off.

First world problems and all that.

The bloke I bought Fazer from recently said he currently had a Honda on order which had been delayed and the dealer volunteered something along the lines of "well it has to be delivered by x date because if it's after that date we have to give you £x amount of discount".

Anyone know if there's anything to that effect in consumer law, or is this just a Honda thing? Or was he talking bollox?

Ideal scenario would be get the bike ASAP but just late enough to demand a discount Laughing

There isn't anything like that in consumer law.

I doubt it's a Honda thing at all.

I have no doubt that the salesman was talking bollocks.

My Skoda order took about a year, way before the scamdemic. TBF they never promised any dates.

The dealer has absolutely zero influence over the build schedule at whichever factory the bike is being built at

They will spin you any line they can to keep the customer pacified

Similar experince with my SEAT (or was it teh Citroen prior to that?) either waythey just kicked a can down the down WRT delivery - the tossers. Easily 6 months late.

As an aside I was amazed bythe stacks of vehicles waiting at the Bristol docks that you can see from the M5.

You're lucky to get a date out of them tbf, honda just said we'll let you know last year then eventually it arrived and we had a date.

Dont think you'll get a discount but unless you scour the country for one at a dealer that might have one in stock now, dont think you'll get anywhere

If you cancel you’ll just lose your build slot to someone else.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

you sign an order you're signing a contract to buy it

also if you've seen the bike and verbally agree to buy it

if they fail to deliver by the date then you can get out of the contract

Thanks for the advice. I'll put in my application for a pair of assless leather chaps while I'm at it.

Can you tell us if 'Anal Tunnel Plugs' are tuned to the major or minor scale?

(Asking for the forum.)
