AFAIK if Trump becomes President again he can pardon himself so the whole case is ultimately futile. The gamble though is swaying independent voters (the outcome has no impact on TDS sufferers and MAGA nuts.)

One can easily imagine older, traditionalist voters put off by a felony charge but that's balanced by Black voters being more sympathetic to someone mistreated by the criminal justice system.

What was unusual about the directions? The only thi g that has been declared as contentious (don't have to agree what the crime that was covered up was) isn't really contentious because he's not being convicted of.that crime. As usual half-wits on the internet have made up.the interpretation that they can convict on a hung jury which is really not what he said at all.

"Jury's request to re-hear instructions “underscores the craziness" of not providing them, legal analyst says

Jurors' request to re-hear the judge's jury instructions indicates that the instructions “were way too much for any human being to absorb and make sense of,” CNN legal analyst Elie Honig said.

While it’s unusual for juries to want to hear the whole set of instructions again, it is common for them to come back with a request to hear a much more specific part of instructions, Honig explained.

But ultimately, this jury request “underscores the craziness of not sending the jury instructions back," Honig said.

Judge Juan Merchan went through “50-something pages of legal instructions” this morning, Honig noted, adding that while most federal judges will send the actual document with the jury as it deliberates, New York State courts forbid this practice.

"It’s the way that New York State courts do it. They are obstinate, they are stuck in the past, they are making life difficult for the jury," Honig added."

If even partisan outlets are leary of the trial something's gone horribly wrong. Given no one's been audacious enough to charge a President previously, one would expect the case to be serious, clear and water-tight. Not some dog and pony show over a victimless crime.
