Hello

I have a mint 04 Hornet and would like to up gear the front sprocket to a 16 (15 is stock).

In removing the front sprocket cover, at first glance there does not look to be enough room to go to the 16.

Anyone do this upgrade with rubbing issues?

thanks

No idea I'm afraid but I'm interested in why you want to?

Its geared too low with the fairly close ratio transmission.

There is plenty of room for gearing it up and still be capable for technical twisty roads.

Once the jetting is cleaned up (California spec) the ride will be better all around.

I'd suggest you probably just need to be more comfortable riding it at higher revs. A 600 Hornet is a screamer, in top gear on the twisties, you're probably nowhere near the power until you hit 90/100mph and even then, the bike would probably be quite happy in 4th.

I get this every time I jump on Mrs stinkwheels CBR6 because I'm used to a VFR. I keep thinking it's a bit flat and that I'm ragging it and having to dance on the gearshift until I look at the rev counter and realise I'm changing up at 5k rpm when it's barely off the idle circuit.

I know I'm late replying but if the 04 Hornet is like the 99 one then the speedometer is run of cable from the bolt on the final drive shaft. The bolt that holds the sprocket on.

This means doing this would give the wrong mph speed while riding.
