Not sure if this is the right place to ask, sorry if it isn't, but I'm having an issue with my bike.

The headlights blew while riding, but after replacing them the bulbs immediately popped.

After a bit of research I checked the voltage with the bike at about 5krpm, and the voltage across the battery was showing over 24v.

The regulator had a burned/corroded pin

So I replaced the regulator (with a cheap non-kawasaki one tbh) and it worked for a week or so.

Now the bulbs are blowing again, and the voltage is spiking again

After more research, I found and cleaned the ground. Still getting voltage spikes though

My questions are:

Have I fried the new regulator?

Is there anything other than the ground connection that could have fried the new regulator?

Is there anything else I should check before wasting money on a new regulator?

Sorry for the long winded post

It could have cooked the alternator stator in one of a variety of failure modes. I'd do a static test at a minimum.

Three wires run from the alternator to the reg/rec. With the engine off, measure resistance between each pair of wires, each pair should give more or less the same, quite low (probably in the single digit ohm range) reading. Now check resistance between each wire and ground, it should be an open circuit.

Anything different to that and you have a problem.

Cheap reg/recs tend to be universally shite as well.

Yep, some of the cheap ebay ones are not fit for purpose.
I dug one out of the potting compound that had lasted a week on a VFR
and wasn't the least bit impressed at the quality.
