This lad is friendly with everyone, Willow used to run from the kids Sad

Sad story though: discovered after a flat was vacated. Moved out, fucked off, left the cat. Bring back hanging, I say.

Same with my Dennis.
Abandoning a three legged cat. How horrid can people be.
(admittedly Dennis *is* a bit of a mare, but she's secretly quite a softie, and I expect having to fend for herself as a tripod hasn't improved her temper)

Scored some Man-Points today. Washing machine died with error code F21, most likely motor failure Sad

Bosch motors are usually pretty solid so I went with the assumption the carbon brushes had worn out. Found a handy YouTube video of the dismantling process and yup, less than a centimetre left on either side. Replacement brushes cost ~£5 so I swapped them over and it's now back up and running Smile

The little bastard managed to carry the one in addition for the first time. That was absolutely beyond him pre medication. Conversely only finding out a week ago he didn't know how to do it has ground my gears.

If Id realised beforehand he'd be so much further ahead from where he is now.

I have two O-levels and two A-levels in Maths but I can't make heads nor tails of modern "numeracy" education. Best of luck!

Meh, it's simple. Regrouping is the new name for carrying the one.

Quite frankly I dont care whether he's following the modern terminology or not, just that he is able to do it.

Come back from usual yearly holiday to france/germany in the car. Pleasantly surprised to get 23.5mpg @ steady 70mph in the 5.7litre v8 Buick LeSabre. And that's without the torque converter lockup solenoid working anymore! I can get 26mpg if I'm doing a steady 55mph, so I suppose if the traffic and wind are on my side I have no fear to do 70

It's more than just terminology as the method is quite different to how sums done using 'carrying the one' look.

This is detailed in the Department for Education mathematics guidance documents about key stage 1 and key stage 2. Information that goes into greater detail is available from the school, this includes the curriculum for each year group as well as the methods they use.

He's already several years behind his peers, teaching him outdated terms and methods will make things harder for him. Sad

Six weeks of maths tuition over the summer holidays could be fun! Mr. Green

I can't knock all modern education systems. My eldest granddaughter learned to read using phonics and she just devours books now like other kids with a Happy Meal.

I calculate that as being around 25% wasted effort.

You'll be replacing a light-switch or cartridges in the kitchen taps next!

the skill is making it look more difficult than it is so her indoors thinks 'what a good husband'. Laughing

The size of my toolbox I drag in to change a plug is epic.

I'm in good books too!
I put the car airbag light out which came on a couple of weeks ago, it turned out to be fusty pre tensioner connectors under the front seats.
A couple of blasts of Deoxit, plugged them and unplugged them a few times and it's all good.
I won't mention all the unnecessary dismantling and reassembly of the steering column shroud and centre console, that was good fun. Rolling Eyes

Schadenfreude.

Two nights ago (23.33 hrs) I get a Whatsapp ostensibly from a former consort:
"Miss your"

Miss my what? My lovely jubblies? Sense of humour? Blackberry and rhubarb crumble?

Clearly he means "miss you" but its late and considering the bird for whom he threw me over is likely to be asleep right next to him, somewhat bold (and not what I expected of him).
"Oh well" thinks I, "Maybe she is staying out with fam/friends or something".
So I respond politely along the lines of "sorry been mental busy" because I am tired and want to go to bed myself.

Ten minutes later I get:
"Want you ass"
Laughing

Highly tempted to respond "Give it to me, big boy", but I refrain and simply respond " Shocked " - I never have been much for indulging in pointless sexting.

The syntax bothers me though: he rarely mis-spells words, even when tired/drunk. Besides he is v.English and always spells it "arse".
I suspect a case of female interference and decide discretion is the better part of valour.

So I crack on with attempting to save the NHS - best way I know to mend a broken heart is to knuckle down, work hard and make money to spend on myself until life becomes bearable again.

... until he calls today - its all kicked off domestically Laughing yes, she's looked in his phone (again, not having burnt her fingers the first time) and seen that he's recently been calling me (I never call him) and she doesn't like it. When we do speak, its just light catch-up, nothing salacious but she is not HP.
He does however deny having texted me the night before.

She's saved screenshots of previous messages between us which she uses to dig up old history. I hope she didn't save the ones where I suggested that (amongst other things which it is no longer polite to mention in modern company), she might be a gold-digger... Shifty

I point out he made his bed / has to lie in it, but counsel him that he should not put up with her nonsense for too long, as he is too old/sick for all that hysterical shite.

Happily it just washes over me and I go back to work happily humming "Private Life drama baby, leave me out"

Karma truly is a bitch.
In this case a red headed Russian one Laughing

When I lived in Fulham there were always a lot of skips, so skip-diving was a regular occurrence, and you could find some decent stuff sometimes.

But over this end of town, you rarely see a skip - people just pile it up outside their house. There's a lot of fly-tipping round this borough so I don't usually bother to look at piles of junk on the streets.

So across the road from me yesterday, someone seems to be moving house, or having a clear out.

They had nothing interesting out there that I could see when I walked the dog late last night, but this morning a 6' tall arched rattan stand had been added to the pile out there ... so I took it home, as ya do... Shifty

Fuck knows what it was used for, there were no shelves or hanging rails and it was very clean so its not been in a garden (before).

It will be perfect for the clematis (red) and honeysuckle plants that I put in this year (still too small to be hanging on to things yet). So I twisted the bits that have grown around the stand - with a bit of luck they will go mental growing all over it and by next summer I can train them along the fence. Dance!

Other people's junk ... Laughing
