Hi All,

this may be particularly applicable to those living in the area of Portsmouth.

I have "google driven" Daedalus Drive in Lee on the Solent, from end to end, and nowhere can I see any indication that the speed limit there is anything but the 30mph that applies on the Stubbington Lane that I would have just left.

I'm due to do an A2 Mod2 test there shortly, and am not happy about leaving the test centre and riding at 30mph, only to get failed for not making progress. There are no signs, or there were no signs in July 2023 when google mapped that area, indicating a higher limit.

Can anyone who lives in that area put me right, please.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Tony Norton

P.S. I am not going to ride to this test under the control of an instructor. but will be trailing my Rebel to the DVSA test site.

Its a 30 limit.

The light spacing and footpath on only one side would make you think it should be a 40 but there are no repeater signs (there's no such thing as a 30 limit repeater officially).

If you look on the B3385 just before you turn in, it drops from a 40 to a 30 just before the junction.

Also, look at the roundabout on Deadalus Drive From Archer Road. They pick the speed limit on roundabouts as the lowest of any of the joining roads. The faster roads would get a sign dropping the limit as they approach the roundabout then one taking it back up again after the exit. No signs so it's the same limit as Archer Road, which is clearly a 30 going through a residential housing estate.

But in general, built up area, footway and street lighting and no 40 or 50 repeater signs, it's a 30. There really ought to be either street lights and/or a footway on both sides though.

Thanks for stinkwheel. I didn't pick up on that as I was approaching the junction from the other direction.

Quite pleased about that because that longish run at 30mph gives my muscle memory a chance to get out of car mode and into bike mode.

I think that, just as an A1 learner can ride solo on "L" plates after the CBT, an A1 licence holder, as am I, should be able to ride an A2 bike solo on "L" plates. The fact that one can't has been my bugbear whilst trying to upgrade.

At my age, I don't see me emulating your exploits, but one never knows.

Thanks again mate.

Is Joannas still going? A right Navy haunt. Picked up some lovely (not) girls in there whan I was abot 20. Dadelous is a wafu training school if I remember. Very Happy

It's been nearly 40 years since I heard the term Skate. I googled it and it came up with this Laughing

'WHY SKATES? Royal Navy sailors who were at sea for months on end would often use skate fish to relieve their sexual frustrations (the mouth of the skate is said to be even better than warm liver).

On topic, lamp posts are an good indication of a 30 miles an hour limit. In Scotalnd got to drive everywhere at fucking 20. Is it the same down South?

Long gone. That was part of the building that was at one time owned by a consortium including Harry Redknap. It was refused redevelopment planning permission as the facade of the building was considered worthy of conservation (Victorian era) and then the whole lot burnt down.

There's a Sainsbury's local there now at the base of the block of flats.
