Hi BCfers!

After being locked out of my account for YEARS, I finally gave up and ended up making a new one, as I can't remember what email address I originally registered under.

So I am back to an L-Plate Warrior. Crying or Very sad

PS Korn if you're reading this and can work some magic, please let me know!

Hiya, I recognize the avatar, I think you stopped posting shortly after I joined up.
A lot of the regulars from way back are no longer posting, those that didn't self destruct or get bored disappeared following the great Rainpal debate a few years back.

The forum is distinctly quieter and tamer than it was ten years ago!

Korn hasn't been seen for a while Sad Watch out for the "no posts exist" error when you click on a specific thread page and just choose the previous page instead. There's an issue with the creaky database backing the forums incorrectly indexing long threads where posts have been deleted.

I'm actually rather disappointed in everyone.. no spill counter, no end of year summary, how is one supposed to ever catch up?

So I got knocked off last year and broke some bits. Lots of bits. Bike was hardly damaged though.
I became grandmother, twice.
I'm still knobbing Sickpup.
Splitting my time between London and Wales as always. I don't think I will ever truly be a "Londoner" although it has definitely had an impact on my personal attitude and riding style.

It does seem a bit ghost-town on the forum. Feels a little odd.
Also, please feel free to karma-bum me. I can't even rate posts yet!!

Its definitely a ghost town compared to how it was.

We don't really have annual threads any more, which is a shame but there's so few of us that its hardly worth it.

There's a series of other threads that have lasted for years ... but there's probably not enough of us left to have a spill counter.

For keeping up with "what shit we talk about" you could read:
* What grinds my gears...
* What oils my gears ...
* What have you done to your bike today?
* What have you bought recently?
* What are you listening to?
And some other similar threads that roll on indefinitely that we kinda check-in with one another when we show up. There's probably other things in the subforums I barely go into. Its all I can do to keep up in the Random Banter, General Bike , Dear Auntie and Current Affairs sub-forums.

Closest we come to an annual thread these days is a sort of "health and fitness" thread but even that runs over a year or two these days. Not to be confused wih the "Mens Health Thread" which has proved to be an interesting and worthwhile exercise in men being open about stuff they wouldn't normally talk in public about.

I'm still in touch with a few people who are no longer on here - or on FB where most people emigrated. I think there are still a fair few anti-FB types holding out, and to be fair I'm not as regular as people would expect.

Gerry (Nowhere Elysium) came round to mine a couple of weeks ago, which was really awesome, he came round with his mum who I'm quite matey with on FB.

Other bods I'm also v.matey with offline include:
Hoffy - a solid mate for many years.
MCW - Daft like me but posher. Allegedly.
The Guvnor UK - only recently got back in touch with him, now known as Ragnar, not sure why. Laughing

I'm still a bit sensitive on the subject of Grr666 who I was pretty matey with offline, but who died last Sept. Sore topic.

Hope you're on the mend now, "many broken bits" sounds a bit nasty.

Heyup.

I now identify as a dolphin. It’s tough having a full body wax every morning but once I’ve had a few sardines I’m all the better for it.

Yes Loz, I'm pleased. These past few years have made me rather internet cynical. Great to see you on here again!

So... the internet has changed over the last few years too. Facebook and Threads and X and other socials have taken over from forums. I just go on here purely out of ingrained habit these days. There are some decent Facebook groups but they just aren't the same as this forum. I'm kind of coming to the conclusion that a lot of things have gone that I'll never get back including of course the lost atmosphere of this forum

I still try to have as much fun on bikes as I can when I can - It's not as pure and innocent as it used to be for me after I've been smashed to bits by a couple of accidents. I'm doing OK though, I can't complain too much and lots of other things in my life are so much better than they used to be ten years ago... Everything changes!

Troll? Interesting.

No patience for wind-up merchants these days.
The internet is already full of people taking the piss and/or pretending something is true when it isn't.

That's not really true. Traditional forums have been 'going' for at least 10-15 years. Does no one remember the facebook chat group that replaced the IRC ?

The internet is ever changing, and many communications techniques have come and gone in the last 40+ years. Anyone use BBS's ? I know I do sometimes, and certain ones are more active than the BCF, but there we are. I also use IRC to talk to people every day.

For the 'lay person', phones have been the significant change and the Internet as it has become is due to adaptation to render for phones, unfortunately. It surprises me how many people DON'T have computers these days.
